Thanks for posting this video. Never tried wemotec but you’ve convinced me it’s worth the effort. My avanti, with fms 2100 kv will run about 122 mph out of a dive. I’m ready to step it up a bit. Have a HH 90mm viper on order and can see running a wemo in that as well. Think I’ll fly it stock for starters and then decide if I want to go 10-12S.

The fan/motor is a drop in replacement for the stock unit that comes with the Avanti. You'll need to replace the ESC with something 8S capable that can get to 120A without problem but again, that straps into the existing place in the fuselage for the ESC.

I have the Avanti in the stock version but I don´t see a relevant change in performance. Even the original version works well. Is speed really that what matters at most on a model like this?

Not for me but it is for some. A lot of folks are obsessed with speed regardless of what it is. For me the Avanti is more about precision aerobatics. I get far more joy from executing a perfect knife edge circuit or a slow low axial roll down the runway. There are more slippery airframes out there if you want to go fast.

@@EssentialRC I agree with you. If the invest of a high end impeller would lead to a significant improvment of flight time, I would think about it. But nevertheless, the original freewing enging is pretty good and extraordinary good compared to its price. Even the sound is better than a lot of other cheap impellers I have seen up to now.

What did you do to the control surfaces? I tape mine because they eventually rip out, especially the elevators.

Nothing yet. I dont like using tape. It dries out and tears after a while. With EPO I've repaired torn hinges with UHU POR contact adhesive. Otherwise maybe I'd use ping hinges.

Ok, I upgraded my Avanti to 8s wemotec motor. Running to 5000mha 4s. Don't seem to be reaching the same speed as you. Barely seems faster than stock set up. Only able to get a 2 1/2 min flight. What have I done wrong. Any suggestions. I may have over looked something. Thanks.

If you are running the motor/fan that Jason is as stated in this video's description then the most likely cause if your lipos. Lower probability but could be your ESC. Tried changing the timing?

@@chrisr4274 To set the timing value on an ESC you need to refer to the ESC manufacturers instructions. Old school way is to set it using the beeps when it is in programming mode but you can get a programming card for most ESCs that lets you set configuration values such as timing.

Hi gents, with this 8s set up, what setting did you use on the ubec, i have a 10a input is 3-14s lipo, what voltage should it be set to 6v, 7.4 or 8.4v. The batts im using are 6s 5600 and 2s 5000, thank you

If you check the spec of the servos used in the stock Avanti fairly sure you will find they operate at 6V. They certainly aren't HV servos (i.e. 7.4V). EDIT: Actually I can confirm that because I use a Jeti SBEC in my turbine Freewing Avanti to step down a 7.4v 2S lipo to 6V for the receiver power.

Great video and upgrade. Not sure if you can answer this but I'm looking to do the same to my Avanti but the fan doesn't have the tabs to bolt the fan to the plane. How did the pilot secure the fan to the plane? Also did he need to add a thrust tube? Thanks for sharing.

the fan comes with the Tabs however you need to Epoxy them onto the fan. I scuffed the Fan housing up a little and then attached them. A little tip put the fan in place and then put the tabs on the mounting point, once you have done that then use a tiny (i mean tiny) amount of CA glue to hole them in place whilst you then take the fan back out. Draw around the tabs pop them off, apply epoxy and put them back into place waiting for that to cure before refitting the fan. It only took me about 30 mins to do all of that and as you can see well worth the effort. But the fan does come with the tabs :)

@@deifyed69 nope you can 3D print a slightly tighter thrust tube exit but I did not bother. I might well try and it and but it drops straight in after you attach the mounting lugs. Obviously I changed the ESC too as the one that comes with the avanti is only 6s but that is also a easy task. All in all I’m very happy with the increase in power it’s very noticeable 👍🏻

@@EssentialRC I also bought the 120A HobbyWing FlyFun V5, to use it with the original fan at 7s, but after about 7 or 10 seconds at full throttle as soon as you close the throttle and then open it again the fan does not restart anymore. why? did you have any problems? bye thank you

@@kwain8888 Oh, I still have it, most flown plane the last couple of months. No crashes yet. It's even in the car right now. The only upgrade I've made, is the 3D printed part at the nose gear. The stock EDF has enough power. A few weeks ago, I even managed a full torque roll (It was a little luck involved 😉).

Interested to hear how your printed improvements work out. I printed the intake cowl and fitted to the fan. I do wonder how the intake system restricts at all with the additional airflow. Let me know how you get on with the printed parts 👍🏻
