I was never able to learn algebra in school because they way the taught it. When I was taking it as an adult It was the same. Then a friend offered to help. He read my book and said although it was accurate there were easier ways to demonstrate what they were doing. He started to show me and I ended up with a 3.5 for the class. The easiest way which I used to solve these algebraic equation was as such, which I found much natural way to solve rather than adding/substracting similar numbers to each sides! For Example: Solve for x: 2x+5=7 2x=7-5 2x=2 x=2/2 Hence , x=1

Hi, and thank you for this tutorial, I am 59 Y.O. and going back to college and needed a refresher. I quit school after failing 3 times before the 10th grade due to undiagnosed dyslexia and attention deficit syndrome. At 45 I started on an Associate degree and graduated end of 2012 after my awesome wife recognized this about me, and convinced to have an expert help. Now I am refreshing math, to start a Bachelors in Engineering. I wanted to point something out however, problem # 13 The answer is actually 2400 because the question asks, "How many gallons were in a box" and not, "each box". I can tell what it was meant to ask when you solved in but I want credit! LOL.

This is what you said of I were to apply this same type of 'logic' to writing English sentences: When I write the (cat) in parenthesis, then the cat can be divided and multiplied by the purple watermelon so the answer is the horse wearing the brown hat. The red hat is opposite of the dog so that we can very clearly now see that the cat and the ferret are made the same by the rabbit exponents to the duck on the other side......and so now both sides are equal and your answer is negative blueberry scones! You should explain the different approaches to solving these problems. Some people will find some approach easier than others. You should not force a specific approach of your random choosing but explain all and let the student decide which approach suits them best. The opposite operation can be explained easier: Just as an example the fist problem x + 2 = 5 can be solved this way: You leave x on the left of "=" and everything else on the right: (every time a number goes to the other side of "=" it becomes an opposite: +2 becomes -2, -7 becomes +7 etc.) x + 2 = 5 >>> x = 5 -2 >>> x=3 You should be teaching people HOW to think not WHAT to think. Not every mind works the same and the more approaches you present students with the higher the chance each student will accept and adapt at least one into their way of thinking.
@Blessed-s4b8 ай бұрын
She doesn’t have time to explain all the possible approaches. We all know there’re multiple ways to solve a problem. She ain’t forcing one method. It’s up to you to decide whether this method is easy for you . There’re tons of videos with different methods. So you can explore those if you don’t like this .
@charlescharliejpeg6 ай бұрын
that’s overcomplicating things
@Karadjanov6 ай бұрын
@@charlescharliejpeg The reason I made that comment in the first place is precisely because they chose the most overcomplicated explanation. I just wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt and urge them to explain the more simple ones as well.

1.There are different approaches to everything. If we decide to teach all the different approaches, this video will never end. 2.We are NOT forcing any approach on anyone. We don't even have that power. 3. There is no one approach that is easiest for everyone. What you call complicated is EASY for others. Check the comments. 4.Because there are different approaches, we have a system to decide which method we choose to use. a) The method we choose must be based on sound mathematics. If this video were about math tricks, I would teach them. Moving things over the equal sign and changing the sign is simply not mathematics. It works, but it is NOT mathematics. I have a responsibility to teach math, not just something that works. The fundamentals of solving equations come from BALANCING. When you have a scale with 5 balls on the left and 5 balls on the right (assuming the weight of the balls is the same), you can add 2 balls to both sides, and the scale will still be balanced. You can subtract from both sides, and the scale will remain balanced. How do you move 2 from the left and change the 2 to minus on the right? b) The method must not be restrictive. That means you must be able to apply it when the problem becomes more complicated. c) It must be clear and easy to understand and apply in word problems or real-life situations. d) It must be the easiest for most of the students we teach. I appreciate the comment. It helps us clarify why we do things and also get others' opinions.

@@yea6049 you're right. It's just an example. The point here is that, the Y section is not of much relevance. The X section is what is most important

I recall how proud I felt when I reached pro-level in Algebra by cheating, graduating high school, and NEVER having to mess with this type of junk EVER AGAIN!
@tbradfurd9 ай бұрын
And if you ever go to college its super hard to pass math, as someone who also cheated through highschool
@randymillhouse7919 ай бұрын
@@tbradfurd Funny story: I had to pass a CLAST test in order to graduate college. College Level Scholastic Test, common in Florida during the 20 aughts. It involved algebra, geometry, percentages, all that CRAP I HATE! I signed up for the test in May of 2005 for the test date in October of the same year. I found State resources with example problems related to the actual test, studied for 4 months and passed all 5 test batteries on the first try. My advisor told me that she BOMBED her first try and had to take failed batteries over again. I AM A WARRIOR! If I can cheat with no effort I will. If I can't then I make algebra my bitch.

@randymillhouse7919 ай бұрын
@@josephglenn4688 I do have a true story: In Florida I had to pass a College Level Aptitude Scholastic Test (CLAST) in 2005. Even if a college student has a 4.0 GPA after all coursework is completed, they still need passing scores on the CLAST to graduate. I studied for 5 months doing algebra, geometry, etc. because I knew I would fail. Finding practice resources was not easy. But after an internet search 2 week's later I found Tallahassee Community College had an entire catalogue of learning based on that specific test. They had sample problems and then 4 problems that got progressively more difficult to solve. I practiced every morning for 30 minutes before work and every evening for another 30 to 60 minutes, more on weekends. Some students fail some of the 5 different test batteries so when I took the test some people would leave, and others would join to take portions previously failed. The test went from 7 AM to 1 PM on a Saturday. I passed all batteries on my first try. If I tried that test again today, I would fail miserably. Find learning resources specific to the test that you have to pass.

The Order of Operations is stated here as if they were chiseled in stone. In fact, nothing could be further from mathematical reality: There are certain expressions where the Order is of no consequence. Take the expression ab/c. According to your demonstration, ab would "have" to be performed first. It should be obvious, any Order would yield the same result.

On question 3 there's another way of doing it and you would find the same answer. Do the multiplication first. 3 squared is 6x.. then you would have 6x+8=20 subtract 8 from both sides= 6x=12 divide both sides by 6. 12÷6=2. X=2
