Weld spots on the splines in the intro? While the repair might be interesting, the shaft was off center in the lathe and that suggests it'll be off center when rebuilt... Also, those grinder cut splines were useless. Irrespective of the rebuild, I'm more interested in figuring out HOW that shaft broke! For a start, that shaft was NEW, there were no marks to indicate it had ever seen use, the splines had weld spots on it to prevent it's being used, so I suspect it wasn't up to specification, yet the damage shows it was clearly twisted beyong the point of failure, that implies it was a deliberate break. The last potential option implies this was a test component, where it's sole purpose, was to be tested to destruction?

it started better than the average Pakistani video, but quickly derailed. I think the worst offense is the splines being done with an angle grinder. the shaft being off center is something they can learn and improve, but the splines is just beyond improvement

KZbin only, they will never use this part. To correctly fix it you tack it back together then grind a vee slot so it could be welded solid. Then it would need heat treatment so a special wire would have to be used. I’m sure it’s a hardened shaft. If a solid shaft broke this weakened version would very fast. It would be much stronger if they made a small dowel sided hole. Still weaker. Also they weld over lots of slag, weak weak weak welds.
