Ultra Coronation 2 Twin R786 Radio Part 2 (4K)

Part 2 of working on this set that was released in April 53 to celebrate the coronation of the Queen. This was a time we still had many UK manufacturers in the UK. In part two I finish recapping and test it for the first time. I also find that filament voltage is a subject I should have researched more. I decided to do some realignment in the end. Apologies for the pauses in many scenes as I have been unwell during filming. I have managed to finish the radio in time for the jubilee celebrations in June 2022 and hope to listen to the news on it. Warning: Tube/Valve equipment uses high voltage and is dangerous to work on. Well done Darren, lots of problems sorted and a case Re-vamp :-D The evil carbon resistors, " Drifticus Ohmicus" as romans would never of said :-D Soldering carbon resistors direct to hot valve bases, the designers want a slap with a wet fish lol. I like your rework of the psu. That white pot resistor, i remember them in the back of tv sets across dead sections of the dropper. It works well, shame the bbc are gits!.

The bean counters have shown AM audience's are failing according to the report I read. I believe the commercial stations can opt to shut down AM too. AM TX are not cheap to run I guess. At least Caroline is there. Daz

@@darrencoe5795 Somehow i'm not surprised, lets hope the ratbags don't think about killing f.m stereo. I hate the digital system, it forces people in to channels they allow you to listen to, no freedom on digital or known as ddizzzzzz tallll gggggg lol There might be the odd pirate pop up, i'm sure the ratbags won't like that. Never mind,

Hunts condenser are such a treat we know what goes with hunts cxxxx, my Quad AM tuner I'm fixing has lots of hunts condnsor

The performance is pretty average on these sets, sound quality is also not up to the standards of my Bush BAC 31 from the same year, but a very attractive set none the less. My set needed about half the resistors replaced, although the main smoother caps were in good shape, likewise the original power cable was perfect, I retained the original 5A 2 pin plug.

I seem to remember in the distance past you could buy a 13Amp adaptor to take the round pin. I could then retain the plug. Daz

​@@darrencoe5795 I have a couple of such adaptors, one is 2 pin plug to bayonet lamp holder & one is 2 pin plug to 13a socket, I am sure there are adaptors for 3 pin round plugs out there. I left the original plug fitted to my set so the door can be closed with the plug in situ.
