That apartment was owned by Paul Goldenberger a famous architect. I was on the roof of the Dakota because a friend of mine lived in that building with his father. He took me all around pointing out this and that. I went into his kitchen to get a glass of water and casually looked out the window. To my surprise, I spotted John sitting at his kitchen table sloughed in his chair with his feet up on the table. (Not a thing that is a good thing) lol

I could imagine living there. To live in the Dakota has been my dream since I was sixteen. That's when I was first allowed to go into New York City with friends. We would run around central park.

Though I usually find myself disappointed by modern penthouses plunked on the roofs of classic buildings, this one looks great! I can't imagine a more interesting project under the old eaves.

This apartment was originally a series of servants rooms. It is the only apartment in the entire Dakota that has outdoor space. It is beautiful with really good taste in the decorating.

Love it or not love it, you have to admit this juxtaposition in the Dakota is stupendous. and, the noise level with other units would be minimal at the least. Can you imagine in the winter getting all that sunlight. What a delight that would be.

It is an incredible and awesome apartment. The lines of the home are incredible and it is a modern NYC apartment masterpiece. I am a fan though of the apartments and their historical beauty in the floors below penthouse C. Once again, a GREAT presentation Scott ! 👍🏻

I love the big windows and vintage roof top view! But all the white and modern feel isn't my cup of tea. Lauren Bacall and John Lennon had beautiful spaces. Warm colors and plenty of wood and vintage lighting, etc. One apt I would love to see was Gilda Radners apt at the Dakota. ❤ BTW, for 10k a month what do you get? A full time door man, parking space maybe and a storage locker?

Of course you have to be very rich to be able to afford such an appartment especially in the iconic Dakota but the upkeep went up nearly $3000 per month in 7yrs. It's a good thing it's a Co-op

This is indeed a superb space, and a very thoughtful approach to modern industrial minimalism -- if this were a Lower Manhattan loft, OMG, sheer perfection fer sure! It is too sterile for a building such as The Dakota, for my way of thinking, so with my fantasy billionaire budget where there are no limitations (ROFL!!!), I would bring in a decorating team that really knew how to balance the deep, rich warmth of classic 19th century interiors with the modern love of light and ease of living. SO much potential for greatness here! Always love your videos, thanks so much and can't wait for another video to swoon over!

Very nice! But I don't really care for the NW corner of the building. Yoko Ono was cloned about 45 years ago and the clone does not age. This is where the clove "lives." I see Yoko in here. However, in your intro video, the white building next to the Dakota between 72nd & 73rd, The Mayfair Towers, 15 W. 72nd. St. seems to have an interesting rooftop patio. I wonder if it is.

Modern decor provides a striking contrast from being an historical attic. If you have money to burn and absolutely need to live in NYC, you may consider this, but a co-op means that if others default on their monthly assessments ($9,361 a month for this unit!) you will have to pick up their slack.

Absolutely stunning and worth the price. However, the kitchen would have been a deal breaker for me if I was on the buying side. I strongly dislike galley kitchens. I don't like fully open concept kitchen/living room either. I prefer a clearly defined space with a sufficiently open access to the living area. Everything else in this penthouse is just incredible.

I love the juxtaposition of modern and historic. That having been said, this particular apartment feels claustrophobic. Who was the female entertainer who TOTALLY destroyed one of the apartments, having gutted it of all the old moldings, fireplaces, and historic features? Tantamount to vandalism. If she wanted modern minimalism, there were hundreds of modern options available in NYC.

Not really for me. I like the original living spaces. I'm curious about how the penthouse area looked when it was servants' quarters, if the space would have made a good apartment for one household rather than multiple servants. Sad, but I suppose no photographs were taken to document that space.

Who pays for any cleaning, maintenance and or repair of the glass roofs in these units? Is there elevator access to the very top floors? Interesting designs, much of looks to be around 1988, give or take.

Peh. And I'm a big ol' fan of modern! The last shot with all of the beautiful woodwork, the lounge chair and the...neon windows?? The final bedroom looked like it came from a Conrad shop in England, or worse perhaps Ikea, was the decorating source. So, would I take this, and somehow assuming I could make a ten grand a month maintenance fee? Ten grand a month can get you quite a nice mansion here in Portland, Oregon. I would take solace that while I would not be able to get Good Eats at the food carts after nine at night, I think for ten grand, I could have a chef on call to pop in when I have severe munchies...and yes, I can see in my mind all the people in New York sucking their faces in. Indeed, my fine New York friends, you may assume that we have taken hold of a little piece of the west coast just so we don't have to deal with your judgements~😁😆😉

This is indeed beautiful. However, I just don’t see the point in paying millions to own a place when you also have to pay $9700 per month as a “maintenance fee.” Call me crazy, but that’s almost like paying millions just for the privilege to be a renter.
