Yeah that’s how the dragon balls work. If no one has claimed said dragon ball then it will despawn & respawn somewhere else randomly on the islands, a text should also pop up alerting the server that a dragon ball has spawned, as well as alerts the server who has claimed it. This is also the case if someone returns the ball for Zeni.

There is no “how many times do I gotta kill the great ape to get the tail” implemented into the game. It’s all RNG based, meaning you have to keep killing the great ape until you get lucky enough to get the tail, and the drop rate is really low so you will just have to keep on grinding Great Ape.

If you do this in a private server then the dragon balls spawn timer will be set to 3-6 hours instead of 10-30 minutes like in public servers. This is to keep players from abusing the dragon balls in private servers especially since all the wishes are really good.
