The Dyneema® Project launches the first in a series of short documentaries. Titled ULTRALIGHT, it focusses on three entrepreneurs of the Ultralight movement while honoring each and every trailblazer in this segment. The Ultralight movement is fueled by Dyneema® Flexible Composites, a revolutionary strong and lightweight fabric formerly known as Cuben fiber. Read more at thedyneemaproject.com/
A silent revolution is changing the outdoor industry. Some call it ‘the Ultralight movement’. New, extremely light and durable backpacks, tents and tarps, sleeping bags and clothing have been available for a few years now. These products have been winning editors awards from outdoor blogs, as well as being raved about by early adopters. Ultralight gear is radically changing the hiking and climbing experience.

Huge fan of Dyneema here! I see alot of comments about the price going down, but just want to put this out there: this gear is gonna last a very long time(especially if you take common sense care of it), and many if not all of these companies are located in the USA and all products are made in USA. I know for certain some of the bigger companies- HyperliteMountainGear, and Zpacks make all products in the USA. Hopefully these two points should encourage more of you to take the chance on Dyneema. I swear by it and no several more experienced friends who do too, but to each his own.

I don't need to go farther or faster, but at 59 years old products made of Dyneema will allow me to continue my enjoyment of backpacking in the beauty of God's creation. For that I thank you.

Spectacular to see these three individuals featured in this film. Also reassuring and exciting is to see dollars spent on a promotional video series for this technology which I can only hope is being matched or exceeded by money spent on furthering UHMWPE fibers for outdoor gear applications.

The Ultralight movement has been going on for quite a while. Back then if a person looked around they could locate a light weight pack. Back in 2010 I purchased a Six Moons Swift for $110.00 and the additional belt with pockets for $30.00. The pack weighs 15 oz and the belt with pockets is an additional 4 ounces for a total of 19 ounces. The pack is made from the typical nylon of that time and has a maximum capacity of 3,400 cubic inches. ( It's out of production today ). My pack weight is under 10 pounds ( minus consumables ) and getting lighter as camping equipment gets lighter.

I'm very into cuben/dyneema, but this is an ad, not a documentary. It's not even a featurette. Please don't insult our inteligence by calling this a film or documentary, it's totally unnecessary to bullshit when you have such a good product.

My interest in backpacking began a year ago and soon after I began collecting all my gear. I never thought much about this "ultralight" gear as anything new or special, to me it was just the way. I knew packs used to be external frames and paired with much heavier items, but in my vision that was forever ago (excuse my niavity I am young). But for sure, here we are in the middle of a new movement. It's pretty interesting to be a part of

Great video and even if I don't own DCF I see the benefits. With an outdoor family of 4 ( a 2 year old and a 7 year old) even a tarp for my hammock is above my paygrade. I can't wait to own some DCF gear to lighten up the load of carring gear for us. I have seen great gear from Hammock Gear, Dutchware, etc.

yes, I hiked nz thru hike 4 months with cottage industry gear. I could turn around and use the same gear again. Held up beyond expectation.This video was well done and truly represents ultra light. May mainstream companies are using the term ultralight in their marketing. Buyer beware. ... I enjoy supporting this cottage industry. Other companies are zpacks and gossamer gear and ULA, but companies highlighted here are all really great.

I am walking in Japan's long trail using three kinds of HMG backpacks and "Echo 2" shelter. I am an enthusiast from HMG's previous mark. (HMG on the snowy mountain) I know Dyneema is better than cf 3, but the price is too high. By the way, what is the durability of Dyneema?

What's holding back the military or hunting industry from adopting this material? In those industries all packs are still made of 500D and 1000D nylon: like Maxpedition, Mystery Ranch or Kifaru International. How does Dyneema measure in durability compared to 500D 1000D ripstop nylon?

It seemed like she was concerned for his welfare. Maybe she had recently seen another hiker in distress and did not want a repeat situation. Maybe there were some friendly jabs at ultralight. We can only guess. However, I would not guess from the story that he had to empty his pack under duress.

No figures on just how faster you go, but it's probably marginal. The idea that you take a 35lb load down to 15 is completely unlikely, I see numbers around 35% lighter tents etc and they don't breath. Below a certain weight you start wishing you'd bothered to bring some amenities. I do agree that light is good but dyneema is for wealthy people and they should just say so.

The ultralight movement is such a hoax. The whole point is for an entire industry (ie. Dyneema-based) to make you think you can’t do things without being ultralight. Mmmm I wonder what prowess humanity managed to do adventure-wise without that fabric... 🤔 ALL OF THEM!
@martynhaswell7104

Dyneema is a cool product, but this video is a bullshit add, saying Dyneema is leading some ultralight movement! Most of ultralight philosophy is not taking crap with you that you don't need and using something like a tarp or trekking pole tent. Neither need to be Dyneema. There are plenty of other options. It's like saying "Titanium products" or "Goosedown quilts" are leading the ultralight movement. Ultralight is a mindset, not a particular product.
