I have been obsessed with your videos for a couple years now. Starting watching them while recovering from a major surgery that took me out of hiking and they gym for quite a while. I’m happy to say you have motivated me to get back out there! My children and I are starting with a week long camping trip to a local state park, with lots of trails to explore. It’s not huge, but it’s a great way to get back out there. Thank you!

Nice vid! Great seeing a full-length solo video again! These are my favorite format of yours. Regarding 27:00, I do the same thing. Found that just using a Dutch Hook on the end of Zing-It and using a stick really works well. Then I just use the normal PCT style hang for my bag.

Thanks for the vid! Found it while researching for info on this loop for a November 2019 hike. My hiking buds have done tons of hikes in this area. We are planning to hike clockwise but love to see some of the campsite options your vid shows. Highly recommend trying the Slickrock creek trails. You would love it! About to check out your Linville Gorge hike. Revisiting that area after many years from hiking it in the 70’s and 80’s. FYI. You mentioned fires in the past there. Unfortunately too many that were NOT controlled burns. Some bad ones over the years but it’s growing back and has never lost its beauty. Happy trails and keep the vids coming.

Looks like you hiked it in the opposite direction that I took a year-and-a-half ago. Also it was dry for you and there weren't Rivers coming down all those Hills you went up. But it's a beautiful walk. I'm glad you made this video it brought back memories. When I was there it was about 6 months after the fire so about one-fifth of the trail was desolate and apocalyptic. Glad to see it's recovered. That was my first experience on the A.T. and I had over packed by about a ton. After hiking this loop I started to dig into KZbin to find out how to lighten my load. I'll be hitting the Foothills Trail soon and you are a big part of why thank you.

Just found this guy....and wouldn’t ya know he’s in my camping area in this one. Got kinda excited to see it through somebody else. The videos are fantastic and the shots of scenery is great....greatly appreciated. I’m not sure if he’s using a hand held or GoPro on the chest.......but maybe a chest mounted something instead of us watching his trail and feet. And believe me, he’s gotta watch every single step in the areas he camps. But sometimes those parts of the video make my ol’ ass dizzy watching it. Ha! Or one of those head mounted ones. It really would be great to be looking at it right through his viewpoint. 👍. There’s no telling what could run across a trail where he’s hiking. Stay safe and the videos are great. 2016 much of that area burnt. The town of Gatlinburg burnt killing many. A few boys apparently started. Bad drought that year. No fires were allowed any place. Glad you got to come south again. Need to go back to the Smokies or try Cumberland Island. We enjoy your vids. Thanks for all of the work you put into them.

That's a great loop! My buddies & I did it in the other direction last summer during the eclipse. We had a perfect viewing from the top of Standing Indian. The clouds cleared up just in time for the eclipse. It was a great experience!

Some hikers and I stayed at Betty Creek where you ate back in March and it was one of the BEST campsites! If you saw a downed skinny tree, on the other side of the creek, I did that.

I was camping at Copper Harbor in the UP (Michigan’s Upper Peninsula) over the 4th of July and woke up at 2am the same way. It was windy up there, being right on Lake Superior,and apparently my whopper hooks frayed my amsteel lines to the breaking point. No real harm,no fault of Dutch. I lol’d after a 20-30 second processing time. The joys of hammocking.

Yes those fires were back in 2016, where you were at was caused by a hiker not putting out their fire, And the one in Gatlinburg was cause by 2 teenagers playing with matches. Myself and a group were suppose to section hike in that area and had to change plans and go up further to Watauga Lake. Glad to see that the area is rejuvenating itself. Great hike Sintax.

ahhh, you were in my country...and even pronounced Natahala as the Cherokee do. You know the non-native locals and most hikers say a long A after the H, but I was pleasantly surprised when you said Appalachians as the locals do! I think the NOC has promoted the use of just the initials NOC now. You were so fortunate with the weather and the bonus fog! I really don't think you gave yourself credit for the altitude and humidity when mentioned your challenge on the trail to the first camp site. I know you hike that altitude and higher in the Whites, but even a few weeks at lower altitude, loses the red blood cell concentration and acclimation to the elevation! I found out the hard way in Wyoming. You "suffered" your hammock drop with such grace and humility! So glad you made it to the tower and showed us our beautiful Smokies in their typical summer haze. I was still there when the fires in November 2016 scorched hundred of thousands of acres all over Western NC. Even had some flames a few miles from the ridge next to mine. Rain came just in time for my area. So glad to see the regrowth. Good work on the vid and you need a trophy for the 12 hour drive on 3 hours sleep!

Good stuff as always Sintaxx!! I got charged by a mother black bear 3 nights ago while out picking raspberries here in Petoskey Michigan. I was in the woods at a nice patch, and noticed a cub (oh shit), then mom came out 35ish yards on the opposite side of me. I fired off my G19 3 times....and THEN she charged me....but stopped at about 15 yards. I slowly backed away, and from in between her and her baby. Wow. That has never happened to me. I backpack a lot, and never bring a gun...but I got almost wrecked in the woods right near my own hometown!! haha. Whatever. Its nature....so its all good. I bear no grudges to those bears. ;) I have told you before......go do a solo trip of Isle Royale, Michigan. You can make it 45 miles from one end to the other, or boss-up and do like 90 (end-to-end-and-back). I assure you that you would love it. Thanks for the vids!!!

As you probably noticed, that section of AT was burned by wildfire in Oct. and Nov. of 2016. The "creepy" trees used to be "the green tunnel" of rhododendron and mountain laurel for which the AT is famous/infamous. That area gets 70-80 inches of rain a year, which why it was chosen by the Forest Service for a hydrological outdoor laboratory. It is also a bear preserve where they dump off problem bears from other areas.

Hell yea Sintax video! It's amazing how fast bears climb down trees. I experienced my first bear in a tree in the smoky's and it was crazy as well. Ever thought about trying the fancee feast version of your stove with carbon felt? I think it's more fuel efficient.

sintax77 basically you cut a cat food can in half. Put a tomato paste can inside raised about 1 inch over the lip. And wrap carbon felt around it you can find it on Amazon or home Depot / Lowe's. Punch some holes in the tomatoes past can at the bottom and a few at the top to let air flow in. It's worth definitely the 5 minutes to make it

Great trip! I'd love to see a video where you talk about the last three loadouts that you have used. The budget and stealth setup seemed like a lot of fun. That explanation of what "Nantahala" translates to in Cherokee was cool. Thanks. Isle Royale was referenced by the local Ojibwe tribe as "Minong" (MEE-nahng) ....meaning "the good place". Apparently they would paddle the giant canoes over there because the fishing was great, and the blueberries were epic. :) Take one guess who is the only guy in Michigan with a personalized license plate that says MINONG?
