Fun fact: Kid Taro in this is voiced by Masako Nozawa, the voice actress for Goku, Gohan, Goten, Bardock, and Turles in Dragon Ball

I really like Grand Kings design, he has a junky diesel/steampunk aesthetic which makes him look more menacing and cool.

Something that always stood out to me in this film is that this was the first instance of Ultraman Jack being named "Jack"

According to the wiki, Saburo Shinoda was unable to appear in mebius because he had a funeral to go to. That event basically changed the course of the ultra series, since Taros origins are now more tied to Ultraman Story (even with its various continuity errors) and many aspects of the show are now canonically ambiguous at best.

True.. the canon event is at least the Grand King fight and Taro actually experiencing childhood instead of created by transforming Kotaro with all the ultra bros combined energy into Taro.

I know barely anything about Ultraman outside of the very basics and your videos, so most of my impression of the series comes from the ending of Big Man Japan, so seeing that, yes, there are in fact Ultrababies and Ultrafamilies is quite amusing.

I think the best thing this movie brought was Grand King. I really liked this kaiju (or daikaiju, this word might suit it better), and I like that it come back in other shows, but unfortunately not with its Showa incarnation.

Even as a kid I thought the Ultra series became way too melodramatic once they started to demystify and humanize the Ultras and make the main ones all siblings for some reasons. I know they live for thousands of years, but it feels weird when Mebius called the OG Ultraman brother. I think I loved 80 despite all the flaws in retrospect is it largely did away with the continuity and feels like a standalone show for the first time since Return of Ultraman.

Space Warriors 2000 was an even worse clipshow, but it was wildly entertaining for how bizarre it was, and also for all the weird racist jokes in the credits.

The Zoffy movie was also released in 1984. To think I'm just as old as these two films. yeah 84 may not have been the best year for the Ultra franchise but at least they popped up a couple of times to let Japan know that they are still around. Also you didn't trim the ending there, whoops. :D Still, keep up the good work. :) Also 02:18 "All Monsters Attack", I think you meant to say "Godzilla's Revenge", unless that was a joke that flew by my head?

@@nexusgaminguniverse3722 It is canon, it's similar to how ZaGorudan explained how Taro contradicted itself in his Taro review yet Taro's series is still canon. The way I see it, it's possible that Leo and 80 made occasional appearances on Earth before their show aired.

The movie is really a "meh" type of thing. Really only worth it to watch the last 15 minutes. Grand King is a tank. I mean he took everyone's finisher beam....including Zoffy's M78 beam which is said to be the strongest in the universe. There is at least more to this film than say something like the Zoffy movie that had nothing but that terrible Joneus live action suit.
