I was 4 years old when I discovered Ultra Man in 1969, LOVED IT!! Totally blew my mind. When I started Kindergarten I was so exited to have my Ultra Man lunch box in tow.
Man, I love these old tv shows and movies. This kind of quality wouldn’t fly in today’s world, but because it’s from so long ago, it feels classic and original.

I rather like these "cheesy" special effects better than all these high-tech CGI.
@anthraxmacabre5200 Жыл бұрын
@@user-1rg9f2-g3l6d I agree. They have a nostalgic charm that doesn’t fade away.
I love the sound design for this fight; none of the by-now iconic themes, just silence as Zetton's beeps and boops overpower the soundscape just as Ultraman himself is overpowered.
Im 32 and i watched those Kaiju movies in a Hospital in the late 90s visiting my grand father with my dad when he had cancer. Me and my brothers where sitting in a children's room and those movies have been played there together with early 90s Anime like Sailor moon, Ranma and Pokemon.
Like other commenters, I saw this when I was 4 or 5 in the 60's, one of the first things I ever absorbed from TV, and it stuck with me throughout my childhood. I always thought his powers were awesome, especially the beams and that electrical saw blade he'd fire. I'm assuming this is the final episode, although it's missing a scene I vividly remember, where Ultraman's prone body rises up, then starts spinning end over end until either a sphere was formed, or he entered it. Then another Ultraman appears to save him and take him home. I always figured that was his father. I remember being sad that he appeared to be defeated and probably wouldn't be coming back (except in reruns ;-). I was also blown away that the series had an actual ending, and for years would think that shows like Star Trek also must have had one, so whenever they'd be in a tight spot I'd wonder if it was the last series episode. I finally realized that other shows didn't have conclusions like that. I only recently rediscovered another show that I had seen around the same age and never knew what it was when I got older. Captain Scarlett! The opening with the foot steps and the gunshot was so spooky as a kid. And like Ultraman, it was this bizarre hyper-real world that even then I knew wasn't real, but found so fascinating. What a resource KZbin has become for re-discovering memories. Thanks so much for posting this!

That person who picked him up wasn't his father, his name is Zoffy and he is essentially an older brother and superior officer to Ultraman. Did you know that Ultraman has a name? It's Lipia. This is indeed the final episode of the original Ultraman series, but there are many, many other Ultraman shows which follow it. If you like this series, you should check out its follow up, Ultraseven.
It’s amazing how much better was the Ultraman mask at the end of the series compared to the beginning. Much smoother and more symmetrical.
@LoneRider2009 Жыл бұрын
You know very well. It has three types of mask during period. 1st one was used from story #1 to #13, 2nd type used from #14 to #29, and final one used from #30 to the last story.

& the 2nd looked the best he looked more serious the 3rd mask looks like he was about to smile with that larger mouth
@LoneRider2009 Жыл бұрын
@@scifiguy26, 1st is a bit ugly, but the chief designer Toru Narita aimed to realize Archaic smile on the mask which you can see it on Ancient Greece sculpture originally.

@@LoneRider2009 I didn’t know that. Very interesting.
They stayed pretty true to form with Ultraman vs. Zetton in "Shin Ultraman", it would appear; they stayed pretty close to what happened in this sequence. This is, of course, iconic, and Anno & Higuchi knew that changing it up too much would be a Bad Thing. Imagine that--creators respecting legacy characters and updating them while staying true to canon! Only in Japan it would appear, of course, does this happen.
@davidhill1408 Жыл бұрын
That might as well be true or.... they just didn't have a new concept for the villain and figured why fix something that isn't broken. Just update 'em for the times.

@@davidhill1408 Point taken, and a valid point it is. But then again, Japan is far more all about tradition than the US is, to be fair.
You mean, aside from Zetton being a gargantuan space weapon that was sent by Zoffy to annihilate the Earth?
@ultimate_capper3643 Жыл бұрын
??? Bro, what are you on about? 1. The original Zetton was created by the Zetton race. The Shin Ultraman Zetton was created as a Superweapon by the Ultramen themselves. 2. The original Zetton was formed when the Zetton mothership blew a balloon and popped it. The Shin Ultraman Zetton was self-constructed by a small orb Zoffy brought to earth. 3. The original Zetton is small and is (probably) made by the Zettons to take over the earth. The Shin Ultraman Zetton is a giant orbital death laser that is meant to nuke 200 light years. 4. The original Zetton vs Ultraman fight took place on Earth, near the SSSP headquarters. The Shin Ultraman Zetton vs Ultraman fight took place in space. 5. The original Zetton only fought Ultraman once and made it seem like Ultraman had a chance. The Shin Ultraman Zetton vs Ultraman fight was just one sided in both instances, first fight had Zetton basically overwhelm Ultraman in an exchange of laser beams and whatnot, and the second fight had Ultraman just one shot Zetton. 6. The original Zetton was taken out by a random missile the SSSP managed to conveniently develop. The Shin Ultraman Zetton was destroyed by Ultraman punching him hard enough. Not putting any hate on Shin Ultraman here (although I do admit I don't think the movie is THAT good), but their Zetton and their fight choreography is WAY different compared to the original Zetton design and fight choreography.

I watched this show religiously as a kid. I still enjoy it. ❤❤❤

Gotta appreciate that they didn't do that thing where Ultraman loses to Zetton the first time, has to recover, maybe gets an inspirational speech, and then rallies himself to defeat Zetton in the rematch. No. There is no rematch. Ultraman straight up loses to Zetton and then needs to be medevac'd off the planet and out of the series. That was a complete victory for Zetton. Up until humanity shot our tiny rocket in its throat, of course.
