Cleaning some brass today with the VCU Tech Ultrasonic Cleaner. Using Dawn Dish Soap, Lemi Shine, and hot water. Comparing it with wet tumbling with steel pins.

Definitely good enough for reloading but I would've deprimed or deprimed & resized the cases first to also clean the primer pocket in the process. Good stuff though.

Your way overthinking and making twice the work out of it. Lol!

Excellent video! I have had a lot of success using my ultrasonic to clean brass and gas operating parts on my Ar-15s and the like. If you wanna get it even cleaner and shinier, put a couple of capfuls of SuperClean, a bit of white distilled vinegar, and a can of cheap tomato paste in there with decapped brass. I know, I balked at the idea of tomato paste but the stuff really works! Eats up the oxidation and carbon on the brass like a piranha!

I use both a sonic cleaner and a tumbler just depends what I'm running small batch or big batch usually do at least 30 mins in sonic cleaner couple hrs in tumbler
@petercraw81886 ай бұрын
Why are you cleaning them before depriming? The primer pockets need to be cleaned, too.
@Jim-oo7dk2 жыл бұрын
I'm going to do a 5 minute pre-wash (Dawn, lemon juice, vinegar) to get it clean and keep the media in the next steps clean. Then ultrasonic for 20. Then walnut dry tumble for 2 hours. Then corncob dry tumble for 2 hours. (decapped first)

Clean enough to load is what counts to me .
@dirtydan30296 ай бұрын
You can load anything without cleaning it. The main reason to clean cases is to keep your dies and gun clean. Im only using an ultra sonic cleaner because having to scrub lubricant with a sponge and a power drill is a pain in the ass and i would rather spend my time doing something else
@jamespollard16706 ай бұрын
@@dirtydan3029 I clean the lube off by laying the cases on a towel and spray with rubbing alcohol . I then roll the cases in the towel . I can delube the whole batch in a few minutes .

Wet clean and dry,,polish clean with media and load,,difference in total time? Nada! Even with a fan the water method will take longer,,,,,,,

Its not like people who sit at home and reload their bullets have friends to go see anyway, so it really doesn't matter

Get a strictly depriming die that doesn’t size. One of the best parts about an ultrasonic cleaner is it cleans the primer pocket and inside the case better than tumbling.

Sorry but new to this - I don't understand what you mean by "steel pins"?
@243Outdoors2 жыл бұрын
When you wet tumble in hot water you use stainless steel pins and they get the brass super clean.
@mr.scruffydog49612 жыл бұрын
@@243Outdoors OK I see. Did you find this worked same or better than the ultrasonic/dawn/lemi shine recipe?
@243Outdoors2 жыл бұрын
@@mr.scruffydog4961 wet tumbling is much better but it takes 30 min to an hour minimum where the ultrasonic is 10 min or less. It’s not as good but good enough in most cases if the brass isn’t too dirty.

I was taken back by the use of the kitchen sink! The lead residue from the brass is a consideration. Be careful out there!!

I thought you said that you used hot water, Dawn dish soap and Lemyclean in a tumbler but when then it sounded like you used steel pins. I'm confused, what did you use in the tumbler?
