ULTRAVERSE: The origin of Malibu's Ultraforce!

I was a massive fan of Malibu’s Ultra Force, the Protectors, The Strangers, and of course my personal favorite, Nightman. I was so upset when Marvel bought Malibu. To make matters worse Marvel owns the Ultraverse characters but doesn’t use them at all. All of these fantastic characters are sitting inside the darkest and deepest section of Marvel’s basement never to be used or seen again. How terrible is that! This was a great video and I’m so glade that there are other Ultraverse fans out there!

The ownership is wonky. The licencing rights to the characters are in Scott Mitchel Rosenberg's folder, I believe.

@@CryptoComics That’s what I don’t understand. Marvel owns Malibu but yet they can’t use any of the Malibu characters especially the ones from the Ultraverse line!? What makes that even more frustrating is that the Ultraverse characters would fit so well within Marvels preexisting 616 universe. Because Jim Lee took his Wildstorm characters with him when he left Image Comics and went to DC and DC incorporated Wildstorm into their standard universe line but yet Marvel can’t do the same with Malibu’s Ultraverse!? I’m just hoping one day those characters see the light of day again because as of right now it’s a damn waste of awesome IP!

It's sad this company folded because they seemed to know what they were doing, had unique IPS, and from KZbin content creators, many amazing events to look forward to they never got to finish. I just watched, and really enjoyed the Ultra-Force animated series a few months back, and like many animated shows there is much missing from it, and if it wasn't for someone filling me In, I still wouldn't know what was really happening. After a knowledgable fan of the content told about Prime and how and why he got his powers, and seeing how the creators used this in a few of the episodes, I started to really becomes impressed by this IP. Very unique characters and over all IPS in this animated series. This character (solitaire) is one of the many characters that don't deal/move away from the ooze as a main theme - so they had other interesting aspects for those not interested in the ooze or who just wanted other themes the universe had created.

The Ultraverse at Malibu was a phenomenal experience. The characters were well written, and everything was planned out very well. Gimmicks were great and all the variants were part of the experience. I could talk about These comics all day.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Have not been able to read comics or regular books for many years due to my vision. However I do remember the ultra Force animated show when I was a kid and Savage dragon and wildcats.. so is there anywhere I can get the whole ultraverse comet book collection for reasonable price? Not for me but for a friend who doesn't really remember Malibu comes because he's a few years younger than me

I don't think it has ever been reprinted as a trade paperback. Floppies only at this point. A local comic shop would have them cheap. Online alternative is mycomicshop.com

What about Nightman? I bought 6 of his toys. I'm going to make a custom toy, like on the show. He had a blue cape, and black suit. I always thought it was grey, cause of the toys and comics.

Stan Lee had he acquired the writing panache of the Malibu Universe into the Marvel series would been impressive. Hopefully, the Malibu Ultraforce could get a second nod, or Men In Black gets integrated into the Guardians of the Galaxy.

I sure hope some of the Ultraverse teams make it into the MCU such as Exiles, Ultraforce, Men in Black, Strangers & Protectors since Marvel owns all Malibu comics assets, rites and etc now Also if you post on Marvel Reddit about these awesome obscure Heroes people may here about them more which could be awesomazing while also giving you more views :)

Unfortunately, Marvel shuttered all of these characters after about a year. They only bought Malibu to get a hold of their coloring studio.

Ya when I was in Jr. High I loved the Malibu/Ultraverse. I cared more about them did I Marvel and DC at the time. I was mega excited for the Ultraforce cartoon. Hell I was even excited for that horrible Nightman show. But as you said, Marvel bought them off seemingly just to kill the Ultraverse never to have them come back. Since the late '90s I always heard rumors that Marvel is thinking of brining back the universe. Much in the same way as the Ultimate books. Or, even brining in characters like Prime and Ghoul and making them part of the X-Men books as Mutants. But it will never happen. Too bad I would love to see just four books come back. Prime, Hardcase, Nightman and Ultraforce, just four come back and see what they can do with the right writers and artists. One reason I heard why Marvel bought Malibu is that Malibu had state of the art printing presses. Marvel thought buying Malibu with the presses would cost less then buying the presses themselves. If that's the case you can see it with these books. Say what you will about the Ultraverse, but drab and bland isn't one of them. Malibu books were some of the most colorful comics off all time. And watching the pages on this the printing press rumor holds a lot of water.

When I discovered Malibu’s Ultraverse line of comics, just like you I became an immediate and instant fan. I quickly started to care more about the Ultraverse characters and comics more so than I did Marvel and DC which says a lot because I’ve always been a massive Marvel fanboy. What upsets me the most is that all of the Ultraverse characters fit in so well with Marvel’s entire motif that it makes absolutely no sense that Marvel didn’t just roll all of the Ultraverse into Marvels 616 universe. Hell, DC rolled all of Jim Lee’s Wildstorm characters into the DC proper but nope, not Marvel!

I just binge watched this animated 13 episode season for the second time (over 24 hours) just to see if it was entertaining enough to do so... guess it was... I still don't understand how a ship so sophisticated (unless it is all contrary) can't repair a few holes.... But I still see so much potential if creators went all in on this GOOP that can do so much bad and or good depending on the one using it. They did such a good job with the team introduced in the last 2 episodes, as for the most part they looked more capable for most of their time beside the original heroes, and are at the least as powerful. I could see them by the end taking the top spot over most of the other heroes but Prime if this season was doubled. I also liked the villains and thought they got stronger and stronger/better and better. I'm sure Rune with all the gems he posessed may be a match for Bone-Yard, but base Bone-Yard is a great villain, and while they made him look incompetent in the cartoon towards the end, he is a believable threat on a scale similar to a Skelitor or Doctor Doom. It would be interesting to see who was introduced in a second half of this is season if there was one, because I'm sure both sides (good and bad) would gain more characters, and I'm sure one or two powerful ones would be on the good side, but to me an even more powerful villain would really be cool as heck. Great season....

Yea, I dunno what they were thinking with the Prime redesign. His original design made sense, a hyper buffed caricature of powerhouse superheroes. That thing, I just... dunno what they were thinking.
