Just to point out, i believe the film maker wants us to think that a bloodborn pathogen somehow transferred to the kid through violet's tears thus making the human killer virus not lethal to him. I think there is a throw away line somewhere near then end saying as much.

Love your reviews .This is super late but i recently got into your reviews and the one thing i disagree with is the the whole taking the gun out of the bag. Its not taking it too far because yes people who are germaphobs dont stop being germaphobs because the audience knows now it would lack consistency with the character shown being an over the top germaphob. Me personally i didn't really take the movie seriously because i think that was intended it was hust supposed to be an over the top "Stylised" film it was still bad but just saying from what i have watched.

Just want to point out one fact: The scene when Violet faced the gang on rooftop (11:32), they were speaking in VIETNAMESE not Thai not Hindi not makeup language ThaiHindi whatsoever. It might sounds gibberrish because Violet's accent was heavy, but the guy was speaking very clear, and after a few listen in closely, I could tell Violet was speaking Vietnamese as well but heavily accented. Somebody owns the Vietnamese language an apology there.

Yes they are speaking vietnamese, It was a misunderstanding on my part which I fully own up to however the thai-hindi language is used throughout the film, its whats written on violets sword for example its on her tattoos, and its spoken several times but don't ask me where because its been a very long time since making this video

Apparently both Milla Jovovich and Kurt Wimmer denounced the film upon its release. Supposedly Wimmer had intended for it to be a much more philosophical film but instead the studio demanded it be cut down in runtime and wanted it to focus primarily on the action. It got so bad that Wimmer basically left during post-production which apparently was rushed too, hence why the CGI looks like it does: it was basically placeholder models they didn't bother to animate something properly for.

Hmm I would question the legitimacy of that, Mainly because when I've seen a film in the past that the "studio interfered with" you usually can see glimpses of what the film should've been but here there is zero inspiration, from the cinematography, to the basic composition of scenes, there is no redeeming quality here, simply put would the film be better if it was more philosophical as you say rather then action focused ? no absolutely not, simply because the acting is hilariously terrible and every aspect of world building is over produced and over thought like a particular edgy teenagers sketchbook.

@@deusdeaconReviews Well, I've looked it up and Wimmer did have a massive falling out with the studio where he pretty much left during post-production, which led to his denouncement of the film claiming it wasn't his vision. As for wether or not it would have been better if he had had his way and made it more philosophical like Equilibrium. That definitely remains to be seen. I personally doubt it to be honest. I assume the story we got in the film was still somewhat in line with Wimmer's vision and frankly it's just dull at best and outright stupid at worst. I also cannot imagine every single artistic decision was completely out of his hands either. For all we know maybe Wimmer's original intentions were actually so bad that is what led the studio to just go: "Fuck it. This film is unsalvageable. Just throw something together in the editing room so we can maybe get some of our money back." It would definitely explain the complete lack of care for even using remotely decent special effects since someone was probably just trying to save as much money as possible.

Okay Deus , love the review , but the scene with the Asian-looking gang on the rooftop , they are speaking Vietnamese , an actual language , not fictional language as you said . Milla was speaking it too with a terrible accent .

well I'm no expert on languages obviously, I can only go on what the research tells me and it states that the language people spoke was developed especially for the film as I said in the video, Thats quoted from the director, so I can't really do much better then straight from the horses mouth without actually learning all the languages of the world.

I think I am the only person in the world who liked this movie. I always thought of Violet as a woman with a severe mental illness caused by the death of her husband, her child and enforced institutionalization and ostracism from human society because she is infected with a contagious virus. I never saw that she cared about vampires, she felt no bond with other people. She was ready to die in bitterness until she found a child that gave her something to care about. I guess I never cared about her action scenes; "over-stylized" was acceptable to me. Maybe it is because a woman who loves science fiction and high fantasy. I can also commiserate with the power that a child has to make a woman do insane things out of love for that child. I will just chalk it up to my one bad movie that I like. Anyway the time is May 20, 2020 and here we are locked down a little like this movie due to the Beer Virus.

From what I remember at the time. She had trained with a fight choreographer and had spent months getting into shape. However all the fight scenes were redone on the fly and edited to look like crap, so she was not a happy bunny. As for the acting, apparently Milo and most of the cast didn't get on with the director.

I was blown away after watching Equilibrium. So many sci-fi fans recommended it. They all spoke of how awesome the "gun-kata" was. It was an embarrassingly bad movie, but the worst part was the goofy "gun-kata". It was one of the corniest type of fighting I had ever seen put to film. It was the (The Room) level of cringe inducement. How another human being watched that embarrassment called a movie and thought a single thing in it was cool, is beyond me.

Not straight to DVD, but very specifically straight to Blu-ray. Sony poured a ton of money into this movie and UltraViolet wasn’t supposed to be good, it was just supposed to look good and promote the new Blu-ray format. Even the name of the film is a reference to Blu-ray.

Pink Suicide No, it was created by Sony to be a Blu-ray launch title. The movie was basically multimillion dollar promotional material that was intended to be displayed in TV and electronic stores to show off how good Blu-ray players looked.
