I had my first fight against Caz today (tactician) and the first round was an absolute disaster. Went in blind so wasn’t expecting for Astarion to get locked up, and also didn’t realize Caz upcasts call lightning. Caz wins initiative, I try to counter spell his lightning at level 3, next thing I know my party has taken like 350 damage. I was able to rally pretty well with good initiative order and plentiful potions but it threw me off my game hard.

It's weird, but, Honor Mode Act 3 almost discourages you from wanting to try to beat the game without cheesing it, or purely focusing on the bare minimum needed to get to any kind of ending/completion. Just made me want to speedrun getting to Level 12 with the path of least resistance, a few neat items that didn't require boss fights, only fighting Orin and the final boss - and even then, using Gale to 'end' it all.

Yeah absolutely. I think there must have been a better middle ground where legendary actions are more reasonable but the base fight is a little harder. I'm working on some challenge rules for my next run to try and balance both the difficulty and the fun of a run

I dont really think its cheesing, honor mode is pretty simple even with a "Unoptimised" party. However you do still need to be prepared (Insert Lion king meme). Just from this video alone I can see many aspects that could be improved. For instance there is no Longstrider in the party, which is a very simple method of gaining a huge benefit (Casting a free ritual spell at the start of the day). One character can have the spell and apply it to all party and summons. Also there doesn't appear to be many consumables used besides elixirs, things like coatings and potions are a huge help which many players neglect. While yes I agree honor mode can be sometimes unforgiving, I can wholly say that it can be beaten without "Cheesy" methods. Though I will say that D&D is full of cheese as any experienced DM will attest to.

Lmao your description of where you were in the run at the beginning is exactly where I was in mine but for Orin, didn’t read (but thought I understood) the legendary action and then BOOM three turns later Karlach is invisible and barely makes it out, alone

Haha yeah, some of the legendary actions are pretty crazy. Sadly I didn't really learn my lesson here and my next fight is against Orin and looks a lot like this one 😂

man that orin fight legit got me walking around my apartment thinking about how to survive this fight, i had 1 tav alive at half hp with the rest either dead or on the verge of it with orin being full hp with full stacks of unstopable. I had no idea about unstopable recharging each turn either since i only beaten it as Durge previously, not as Tav. I still won tho

The real problem is that the game doesn't set the enemies to their orginal locations if you escape, this is a well designed fight imo.
