I remember watching this as it was broadcast as boy of 14..went out and purchased Hymn the very next day, then the album....memorable times for music....a long forgotten period of music/fashion.....post punk....New Romanti/Futurists...Ultravox were always the latter...harder edged sound

Brilliant performance by a brilliant band. Rest in peace Chris x

Midge's guitar work makes the whole live sound a lot more rocky. It's the Thin Lizzy in him!

If only he'd kept it going.

@@markscott554 I saw Midge's solo tour in the 90s when he played his own and Ultravox songs on acoustic guitar. Disappointingly weak and anaemic would be the most positive review I offered at the time.

Notice the extra two members of the band? One sounds just like Midge, on backing vocals.. the Messengers..
@autumnmatthews31792 жыл бұрын
I know Midge got all the attention but Chris is easily the coolest guy in Ultravox!

Totally agree. RIP Dear Chris. Very much missed and loved your style. Thank you..

Although the sound mix is mono, this is a far better account of the band's live appearance from the time compared with the 'Monument' video. There are no clips of the videos interrupting the live stage coverage, thankfully. The OGWT stage must have been too small to allow Chris to have his own synths - he shares Billy's setup stage left.

be good to see the BBC release this on DVD, looks like it was filmed in the BBC Theatre at Shepherds Bush (I think now called the Shepherds bush empire).

No, the black guitar Midge is playing is his Fender. The grey guitar is his Ibanez.
@marcdewolf7334 Жыл бұрын
On mine for life he's playing the ibanez. He also has the black Stratocaster. Both guitar and bass ibanez were painted grey.

It seems to me that Ultravox's sound is way too big for this studio. This is a studio for jazz.
@mightyV44410 жыл бұрын
I wonder, is this what Midge's all-grey Ibanez originally looked like?
@ChasD10 жыл бұрын
And Chris' Ibanez bass, as also seen here . Looks like they were both re-painted later on?
@mightyV44410 жыл бұрын
Well possible! Chris' bass seems to be a Yamaha, though ;)

That black guitar is Midge’s Fender.

Their music is just too basic for my taste. If they could write music half as good as Mark Hollis and Tim Freise- Green, maybe I could understand the hype.
