I agree! Sometimes, "less is more", by interjecting 1/4 notes and then back to the 1/8 notes with the "spang-a-lang" with occasional extra notes. Variety is great with the appropriate songs. This includes using brushes. Cymbals, drums, etc. .... Supporting the group by being a team player without overriding any of the other musicians is like being one of the ingredients in a soup, too much or too little can ruin the taste. Your teaching is incredible! (By the way, I have some of your sticks by Regal Tip and they are wonderful for jazz.)
