Wonderful job I did the same to mine. Also swapped out the hex screws on the side plate to the correct ones. Also did my ejector rod lock up. And last but not least white outline window on rear sight. Bravo my friend

Ahh the white line around rear sight! Yes I’ve seen that and thanks for reminding me. I will get that done. What hex screws? I want to replace the x head screws with flat ones but not sure on the thread size. Do you know? It’s the two large ones and three smaller ones that hold on the plate. Do you have pics of yours to share? Would love to see

Just a remarkable job of fitting them and yes the extra work for the older style grips was well worth it.

Thank you my friend. Really appreciate your comments as always. At least I now know what I need to do and where to cut once the new grips arrive for the black one

I think it’s a relatively small community of fellow enthusiasts. I like the simple no nonsense videos like yours and others. I’ve followed you for so long now and it was you that inspired me to do my own videos. Would love to try some of Shaun’s mods and think I would go a bit further if I did but not here in the UK. The laws here are very strict unfortunately. Still great to watch others though.

@@Waxmax Thanks my friend. Sean does exelent work on his markers. Btw. How hard is it to drill the extra posting in the valve stem? Thanks 😃
@Waxmax2 ай бұрын
I won’t lie. It’s not easy. In so far as the drill bits are so thin and have you must keep you hand very very still when drilling. I did it before I had a vice. Now I have a vice it will be much easier. It’s all in the preparation. I have a plan! And that is the get the correct angle for the drill and then tie thin cord/robe around the drill and secure to something up high. That will help steady the drill so not so tiring on the hand. Other than that it’s ok. Obviously need to not nip the edge of the valve seat rim. I dud actually do this but fixed it by running the valve itself in the drill and used wet and dry paper to smooth it off again. You need to drill at an angle but I’m sure you already seen that. Use tungsten bits. Very gentle pressure and lube. Once started it goes through quickly. I’ve already done another valve ready for the 8 inch one. Just need to do the valve chamber which is easier as aluminium. I found it interesting that by just doing the valve itself made no difference. It was only when combined with the valve chamber mod that I saw a difference. Squeezing out all those little areas.

@@Waxmax Thanks for the info my friend. Its ofthen the combined mods that will give results. One mod alone rearly does. I will see what I will do with my M29. A longer barrel alone only gave 2 fps more... so I must tinker with the valve and valve spring I guess...🤔

Hello again!! Another wonderful video as always! I am amazed how a pair of wood grips changed the gun completely! The little neodimium ( I hope I wrote it well ) magnets was an absolutely wonderful idea!!, I did not remembered that! I also loved the way you worked the square hole othe top of the frame!! I will watch the videos again so I can understand what and how you did it. I am always waiting for new videos of yours, as I love replicas, and as I've said before, I like your way of explaining and the absence of stupid sounds/''musics''. Greetings!!

Always lovely to receive your comments and appreciate your liking my videos. I know I’m not entertaining like loads of KZbinrs but I try and be specific on facts etc. I just love working with my hands.

@@Waxmax The full honesty in all ways on your videos, is amazing and rare. That would be enough for all my likings and subsicribings. but this time I was luck, very luck: some of your projects shown here, will be the same things i want to do on my presenting own replicas as well as the future ones I will have. ( How I wish you were near to me!! )

Your hard work has certainly paid off, the gun looks superb. I’m waiting for grips from the German company I mentioned for my Colt SAA, and I’m taking the grips from my M29, to a chap who does artistic stuff in wood, I’ll let you know how it goes 🤞.
@Waxmax2 ай бұрын
Thank you my friend. Always nice to hear. I hope you do a video on the SAA once you have fitted the grips. That’s one model I don’t have but really want one. What version did you get? And yes please let me know if any updates on both of them. Sounds like it’s going to be awesome!!
@greatunwashed18562 ай бұрын
@@Waxmax , SAA, the blue one, I changed the grips from brown to faux ivory, but you just can’t beat wood,
@Waxmax2 ай бұрын
Nice. With me it was a tossup between the blued one or chrome one. Thought the aged version looked a bit rough. Agreed. Wood grips completely transforms the models. Umarex are missing this feedback surely. If people want to buy replicas they want them to be as accurate as possible and would pay more it if offered. Currently I’m toying with the P38 but need to do more research into the grip size as found an original ww2 pair for sale. Would be nice to strip it down completely and refinish it like I did with the Luger.
@greatunwashed18562 ай бұрын
@@Waxmax , And after the P38, how about the broom handled Mauser ? I’m tempted by the Chrome Remington, added temptation being the German company does grips for that. Totally agree that Umarex should offer the choice of wooden grips it would probably add nearly £100. but I’d pay that for the pure pleasure of having something superb.
@Waxmax2 ай бұрын
The Remington is nice. The Broom Handle is nice and funnily enough I found a second hand one online for £150. The issue I have is the magazine. It’s got that extra bit on it that I don’t believe the original real one had. Well, not from research photos I’ve looked at.

Your attention to detail shows. I can tell how much those little white square bits bother you. Maybe if you intricately cut some little chrome stickers?
@Waxmax2 ай бұрын
I have thought about that too lol. I might try as there is no harm in it. It’s just annoying really. Think it will be easier to do on the black one

@@Waxmaxmy wife just bought some acrylic paint pens for her craft project. They are very reflective and could also resemble chrome.
@Waxmax2 ай бұрын
Ooh really? Do you have any more details on them like brand etc?
@kylethedalek2 ай бұрын
Wanted to try this, also wanting more custom makers to make upgrades. Or Umarex to rerelease the gun with the right details, like the stampings not painted on. Or the cylinder release not having markings around it. A blued ejector rod, inner barrel painted, a better cylinder without the lines and groves around it, better chambers, valve painted, better trigger (the single action is pretty heavy.), better internals (the cast parts are crap and break. I’ve had a R8 break within 2 months and Umarex and their official U.K. importer “Land Warrior” have refused to replace or fix it. As it’s out of warranty. Well Umarex can’t even get back in touch. So I don’t know if I would even buy another product from them, or recommend them. As they seem to make some crappy stuff, rebranded stuff and some of their stuff is pretty good. But their customer service and warranties are terrible.
@Waxmax2 ай бұрын
Yes I’ve had runnings with Umarex customer care before and they are not helpful. Such a shame. But they do have some good replicas and until another company comes along and does better I don’t have much choice. Northeast do some amazing replicas in airsoft and I have a couple. Shame they don’t do airguns too
