My HDR 50 (11 Joule version) actually produces about 17 Joules (507 FPS with 22 grain nylon rounds). It will penetrate drywall and steel cans, and with solid steel rounds it blows through coconuts ! I keep it as a less lethal defense on my sailboat.
@owenthomas986311 ай бұрын
Thats over the 11joule its rated for, maybe faulty you should return it before it blows up in your face

I had both, and will stand by the HDP50 every time. It never gets any of the credit it deserves. Other than the revolver being able to shoot shaped projectiles, i don't see what all the hype is about. The balance is terrible at best, and with the hard, "snagging" trigger pull, good luck with a follow up shot within any reasonable amount of time. It has a rail for mounting an optical. Good, bc you're going to need one. Molded flat black front n back sights. Can't hold a bead on a target on a sunny day. The HDP50 has neon fiber optic "night sights" front n back n a smooth trigger pull. Balance is good n feels natural in hand. Before and after the equal version of max power kit was installed on each, HDP50 dominated testing, especially timed sets with moving targets. Revolver never redeemed itself n didn't want to waste another dollar on it. Gave it away. With a little self tuning n tinkering, at 20 ft the HDP50 will put a soft foam ball in sheetrock. 8.5 gram magnesium rounds clean through a full WD-40 can, and a nylon resin round will clean the teeth out of a crackhead's grill w two lightening quick pops. HDP50 all the way

Thanks, ive really struggeled with my dissision. I wanted the HDP but every review said i should by the HDR. I will buy the 11J verson and would really like to try some different projectiles. Do u know any for the HDP? Or do i have to make some my self?
@ModernIntel3 жыл бұрын
HDP will only fire a round .50 projectile, but there's plenty out there with extra weight added! The guys at SSR make the best rounds in our experience
@Festivejelly3 жыл бұрын
Agree I had both... much prefer the HDP. Neater form factor. Better sights, more efficient and looks closer to the real deal. The downside is reloading but you can easily just use a speed loader tube and drop the rounds in. Not much slower than a HDR tbh maybe even faster.

HDR50 is better in a critical way. HDR50 is a powerful air gun which can shoot any type of projectile, including cheap home made ammo and lead bullets. What's more, it's large lower rails and slots allow to easily mount long barrel extension. HDR50 can be modified to be powerful lethal air gun. So can HDP50. But it's significantly easier with HDR50 and also shoot bullets instead of being limited to balls. So for ultimate home defense, HDR50 is the better choice.
@StrathpefferJunction3 жыл бұрын
The power difference is understandable, because the small gap between the barrel and cylinder in the HDR50 vents CO2.
@ModernIntel3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Strathpeffer Junction. Do you think the after market alumunium cartridges which are made to a tighter tolerance would make any great differance?
@StrathpefferJunction3 жыл бұрын
@@ModernIntel It guess it's possible, but it's a feature of almost all real steel revolver designs too (bar the negant). Some air pistols do have a barrel part that pulls in to seal against the cylinder, but that's part of the revolver design. You might be able to reduce the gap a little with a tighter tolerance part, but there's still going to be air lost. I've never tried one of the aftermarket one, maybe others have who can confirm?
@petersmith69743 жыл бұрын
@@ModernIntel I’ve heard that replacing the aluminium barrel with a steel barrel (not extended) and the aluminium cartridge makes a difference.
@Asgardsteve13 жыл бұрын
@@petersmith6974 The aluminium cartridge stops the gas leakage and adds between 0.5 and 1j by doing so, a conversion kit can add another 10j and up depending which version you get and the barrel tuning kit adds quite a bit as well. Some conversions can take the HDR above 30j

I own the hdr68, hdr50, hds68, hdx68. Own one of Umarex bb handgun, snr357, spyder viictor, tippman tmc elite. Just bought the new mercury rise torpedo revolver and the hdr50 launcher and pepper spray cartridge. To bad most of the cool ammo is sold overseas. Cost a fortune to get it shipped to the USA. My favorite is my 16joules hds68. Arrows is my favorite to shoot out of it.

For the pistol I think there could be an extra mag adapter to autoload in the hole (spring loaded), just a thought.

Yes I can reload HDR50 in two seconds by swapping magazine, while keeping gun pointed at target. One second if I don't engage the magazine bolt (it's possible to shoot without center bolt engaged). but I doubt that's possible with HDP
@victorbarajas47053 жыл бұрын
I have them both and the hdp has a way smoother trigger pull than the hdr and I find myself hitting smaller groups with it because of that.

12.7mm delrin balls work great in the HDP... they fly much faster and hit a lot harder than in the HDR. The HDR loses too much gas because of its revolver design.
@EvanXDev3 жыл бұрын
HDR 50 has much more ammo choices which hit harder
@Festivejelly3 жыл бұрын
@@EvanXDev They dont hit harder though. Measure the FPS, they are slower. Sure you could make some pointy bullets but they still have less energy. Tbh not even the HDP is powerful enough for a proper deterrent. You want the FSC or the T8.1
@Festivejelly3 жыл бұрын
@@tomszabo7350 Done all that. I found that steel balls are too heavy. The best ones seem to be the 2.4gram rubber balls with steel powder. They cycle nice and put a very deep dent in my steel pan.
@springer-qb4dv2 жыл бұрын
@@EvanXDev Yes totally agree. I can upgrade HDR50 to same power as 22LR pistol. I would prefer to shoot lead bullets at that power instead of rubber balls, since it's lethal weapon at that point. I guess it's possible to upgrade HDP50 to same power levels but you would have to shoot lead balls instead.

HD Byrna is expensive and doesn't seem to have much upgrade capability. HDR50 can be modded easily, shoot any kind of projectile including home made rounds and can be upgraded in power up to lethal levels.

Revolver can be unloaded without firing. Also I suppose conical rounds could be fitted if desired. I wonder if a barrel sleeve could be fitted for smaller diameter but higher velocity.
@springer-qb4dv2 жыл бұрын
Yes that's the advantage of revolver magazine. Reducing caliber will not give you higher velocity, as air gun is propelled not by gun powder, but fixed air pressure. But adding barrel extension will increase velocity and to impressive levels.
