Umarex T4E HDS Velocity Mod

I just finished this mod for a friend and I discovered a really useful shortcut. Instead of trying to use tweezers to remove the black plastic plug (@ 6:18) (which I found impossible) I simply pulled out the plastic barrel that has the large spring around it that inserts into the other side of the part that has the plastic plug in it and pushed the plug out. Fast and easy.

Works really well but actually easier to push out the restrictor from the bottom with a flat screwdriver than using tweezers!!

Got the gun before knowing about joules. Actually got another gun that is also 7.5 but had it customized to 30, HDR68. So I went online to see if this HDS could be modify and here I am. And boy is it a lot easier to mod then the HDR68. Thank you kind sir. Also to anyone reading this always check to see if there are more powerful versions of the gun you are thinking of buying and if it can be modified. Also if you are looking at test on youtube make sure they are testing the one you have or want. Many test are done with upgraded guns that will be useless to you if you plan on using the standard gun.

I've got mine for home defense so that plug is gone. Glad to see someone has said a better way to remove the plug. My plug was out and I looked and thought, Humm I could have did that???? One of the best air guns I have.

I just bought this Umarex Shotgun T4E HDS online and it came by FedEx today! I have not shot it yet because still waiting for my ammo which arrives in two days. Yeah I know that sucks but what can you do. I will use the shotgun as-is for a while then I will try your mod which seems a bit tedious but like you said take your time and its worth it at the end so I will let you know the result! i live in germany and here this gun is restricted to 7.5 joule but in it´s neighbor austria the same gun comes with 16 joule so i´d say (but i´m in no way a gun expert) you get even more than that because in this video he kinda doesn´t recommend shooting "full power" through only one barrel. and of course by modifying it one would be breaking german law

Just got my hds 68 today at big 5 if anyone is looking. They have the pistols and paintball as well as rubber ball ammo in .50 and .68 caliber. There's a 20% off coupon you can easily find online. I got the gun and 100 rds of rubber balls for like $174 out the door! Sick so far can't wait to try out the mod. Hope it doesn't overpressurize and mess it up.

I do plan on doing the mod, I no longer can run the paint ball fields and I believe under 300# is max there. So removal is the plan. One thing.... if you use a small Phillips screwdriver and push it out from the other end you use fewer 4 letter words in doing the mod. Just got mine so will do it soon. Thx

A better way to get that plug out is take off the spring slide off the plastic tube. Use a small screw driver. Stick in the tube and just tap gently that plug pops put...

The final step was more difficult then said in the video. It bent my tweezers and I chipped the hell out of the little piece of plastic and the aluminum threads for the cap and it won’t go back on flush. But, found an easier way in the process. So, I now know what to do with the replacement gun, that I now have to buy.

One thing that was not mentioned in the video. When doing the reassembly, I had to compress the upper part of the valve cover back onto the lower assembly using channel lock pliers. In the video, it looks like it lies down in place with no effort.

The metal subframe is pretty gnarly too. Lots of flashing on the sides that isn't cleaned up at the factory. Also the metal barrel release button on my first HDS68 was totally warped from the factory.

I believe the 16 joule version doesn't come with the restrictor at all, so as there's no restrictor to remove it won't work.

I just received mine from Ansgear. They modify it to 16 joules. Mine is junk right out of the box. After activating the C02 capsule, all of the air immediately discharges. It seems to leak out of every little seam in the gun. And it discharges so fast you can’t get one shot off. Any ideas?

It uses a lot more, because it's allowing more CO2 in. Cuts your amount of shots at least in half if not more. So if you were gett 40 shots say, out of 12 gram CO2 (like on my Umarex TR50 at 7.5 joules revolver by Umarex), you would get 10-20 shots with a modded one that puts it up over 11-16 joules like this. A old Norweigan KZbinr modded his pistol like mine, to shoot over 11 joules (it's 11 joules stock in Europe) and he only gets about 8-10 shots now at the higher velocity. Thing shoots like close to 600 feet per second and is a beast now from 300fps and dumps a lot more CO2 into the chamber, absolutely, so you will go through more 12 gram CO2 bottles.

At 5.32, the gold pipe is that bending at the c02 end as this is the only part of this mod that worries me! Or is there some movement/rubber seal at that end?

Good question. Although, I think if you do it "exactly" like he did, you should be o.k. It looks like when he does it, he is pulling it away from the brass tube, not up very much so it only flexes the brass pipe a little and it seems to be able to take it. It would probably be more obvious how it is attached to the CO2 button and then tank from a top down view, but his is obstructed from our perspective.

@@Dugiesrevenge the maker of the 20+j valve said if you havent already, remove the limiter which is the black piece inside the chamber that you unscrew with the two little holes in it, remove the gold screw(tiny gold valve that fell out with me anyhow because i didnt see it til i was done), and use heat to weaken the glue holding the old valve pin threads tight, replace with the new one, and you should be golden. No I don't know how much the results differ between the 16j version in the 7j version, but they shouldn't because the only difference with the 16j over the 7j is the valve is already been upgraded and usually the air flow restrictor in the chamber has already been removed for you but that could have been just in my case, when you have the 16j version to begin with (and i do). But it's a noticeable amount more powerful so I can't be getting the same statistics as I started with considering the guy whose Channel we are commenting on ended up with that much power and that's how much I started with. And I said I don't have a chronograph or whatever they're using to measure speed and velocity but, the difference is very noticeable! I just shot a glass marble through a heavy plastic garbage can and left a rather sizable hole, and the marble size made so it vs chamber wasn't airtight or even close to it.

I took mine apart and came to find a ltiny reducer/muffler piece that seems to fit into the brass tube linking the CO2 cartridge to the valve. I just can't find out on which end of the tube it is meant to go? Valve side or cartridge side? Could you help me out here?

TheInflicted I just had same thing happen to me, looked online for a parts list but found nothing, I just removed the 1 screw that holds the co2 barrel in place and removed , it all comes out in one piece, the little brass “plunger” only fits one way, slide it in and screw it back in and continue assembly, tested upon assembly and works as described, actually; the difference is insane, just ouch!

Drill a bigger hole in the black thing from the top and one on the side of it, than put it back in with the 🕳 on the side pointig down, if you want to make it right for single and double fire with better power but not on Overkill mode 🤘🏻😎❤️&✌🏻
