@truesouthcorn Actually Austin is an exception, it has this whole alternative vibe, hippie culture etc. Janis Joplin studied at UT Austin. And whole foods showed up @ Austin. That's why Austin is so cool: it combines Texas' hospitality with Austin's alternative culture :-)

The clothes are so short because it looks like the kind of attire one would wear and perform in at matsuri, or festival. These tops with shorts are traditionally worn on those occasions, and often there are group dances like this.

@truesouthcorn I live in Texas. (: The thing is it's so big that it really depends where you go. It's true that some parts are very conservative. Some are accepting and culturally diverse. Take me for example, I live in San Antonio and I LOVE this music.

These are not 'miniskirts', but happi, which are festive jackets worn at matsuri. Happi have been worn since the Tokugawa period, so it's quite traditional.

There are many different branches of the conservative tree. I am open to different cultures and new ideas, yet consider myself conservative because I believe in the merits of limited, constitutional government, fiscal responsibility, free markets, freedom of association and (whenever possible) empowering states and local communities.
