So a card I've recently been using as a nice starter for my Ghoti decks is x3 Aloof Lupine. It's practically a Ghoti card in all but name. On Normal Summon, banish (as cost, so you avoid Ash somewhat!) 1 monster from your hand; then banish 1 monster from your deck with that same type as that monster. Aloof Lupin + any way for Paces/Shif can get you all the way up to Deep Beyond on your opponents turn. It's such a perfect starter for the deck. You go -2 with it in hand, but you've stacked your banish zone with the cards you need.

8:00 Not a ruling expert but i'm pretty sure it's because you can't activate an effect that would protect your S/T cards once they are already protected, hence you can chain them but can't activate after one has already resolved
