I'm sorry for the distorted video. KZbin kept blocking the video on copyright and I had to re-edit and re-upload multiple times until it was changed enough to be visible. I wish it wasn't this way.

Nelli has had a health scare, and I think she's dealing with that in this song. She's singing about letting other people rush life and experiences, let them run. She has taken a slower abroach and enjoy the moment. ❤ She is happy to be going to her grave in a slower pace. By the way I found the English lyrics in the subtitles! Just had to change the language.

Kuumaa Kuumaa mixed with Mirella. I enjoy it a lot and its meaning (Renata remember about it as a PhD student! :D). It will get a result similar to KUUMAA but I quess it will get quite extensive airplay in Finland. UMK is not only about Eurovision.

UMK starts in a strong way. Both of the two songs so far are good, but I prefer Hitaammin Hautaan a little bit over Nightmares. Still I´m almost 100% certain that the best one is yet to come.

It felt like the song ended while it should have continued, but it was already three minutes. That was really surprising. The song carried at least me away. The problem with both of the songs by far is that there is no climax. But it is a solid pop song that we will hear in Finnish radios. Nelli Matula is an established artist in Finland. She has also participated in reality television (music) contests, and she is really someone who likes to be silly. I hope that side comes out of her if she enters ESC. The song itself has a past in her diagnosis of CVI disease (her body does not produce antibodies, antidotes) so she might get sick quite easily. The song was written after the diagnosis and Corona virus. She had a lot of time being alone and her life kind of stopped. That is also repeated in the song lyrics how others can run and haste, but it does not bother her at all to stay still and watch the clouds go by...

To summarize the part about death: Let those run who want to, she is enjoying her time. Some people seem to be hurrying to the grave, she has a slower pace.

I'm all for people not stressing out and taking the time to smell the roses, but when you have a massive hole in your exterior wall like that, an entire wall missing and the roof's nowhere to be seen... But seriously, Nelli is in the race. Hopefully the YLE's budged cuts won't effect the live staging... Would be interesting to see, which Finnish songs turn your waterworks on. I can already guess one song on that list. The English hymn version 'Be Still, My Soul' of Sibelius' 'Finlandia Hymn' was sang in the President Carter's memorial service, so there must be something Finnish composers know about sadness, grieving and hope of better times. On that note, here's a definition of music from Kanteletar: "My Kantele (Eriskummainen kantele) - Loituma". The Amorphis' English version: "Amorphis - My Kantele (Acoustic Reprise)". If you don't mind, here's a playlist, on which there are several Finnish melancholic classics. It's a soundtrack of a very sad story. Being classics, there are translations online: "Kaseva - Tyhjää", "Hassisen Kone - Tällä tiellä", "Happoradio - Puhu äänellä jonka kuulen", "Kaj Chydenius - Sinua, Sinua Rakastan", "Maustetytöt - Jos mulla ei ois sua, mulla ei ois mitään", "J.Karjalainen - Mä käännyn hiljaa pois", "Yö - Joutsenlaulu", "Hector - Lumi teki enkelin eteiseen", "Lasse Mårtenson - Myrskyluodon Maija", "Leif Wager - Romanssi", "Sig - Leijailen", "Tapani Kansa - Akselin Ja Elinan Häävalssi ", "Pepe & Paradise - Aamu", "Neljän Suora - Mansikkaa ja valkoapilaa", "Laura Närhi - Hetken tie on kevyt", "Yö - Rakkaus on lumivalkoinen", "Tuure Kilpeläinen ja Kaihon karavaani - Valon pisaroita", "Eppu Normaali - Kaikki häipyy, on vain nyt", "Dave Lindholm - Pieni ja hento ote", "Sentenced - No One There", "Sakari Kuosmanen - Kappale kauneinta Suomea", "Juice Leskinen - Syksyn sävel", "Vesa-Matti Loiri - Nocturne", "Laura Närhi - Mä annan sut pois", "Konsta Jylhä - Vaiennut viulu", "Päivi Portaankorva - Balladi Elokuvasta Klaani", "Jenni Vartiainen - Missä muruseni on", "Kari Rydman - Niin kaunis on maa", "Samuli Edellmann - Suojelusenkeli (Maan korvessa kulkevi lapsosen tie)", "Petri Laaksonen - Täällä Pohjantähden Alla" and "Denigrate - Mombasa".

@@espotpod I rarely listen to radio anymore, but some of those may have played on my gym. Hector's song I know... but how is Hitaammin hautaan on that list? I thought it is more like an "empowering" song for young women to make their own choices. If I think of a sad finnish song, Yö: Joutsenlaulu would be the first that comes to mind.

As always, Nelli Matula has one of the most beautiful voices. But the song is just OK. I really wish she would get an opportunity to sing a song, that would reveal her full potential. BTW, you should be able to set the language of the subtitles manually.

@@espotpod That is such a shame! As this is part of your research, couldn't you have gotten around that by contacting Yle directly? Also, it is really strange that you have this problem when others don't. Who on earth understands the ways of the gods of copyright...

@toinenosoite3173 I have never had this happen before and I'm quite pissed about it. Last year every single UMK video was permitted for reuse on KZbin. My guess is there is some issue with her record label. Hopefully there will not be any problems with the other videos.

Again, great song, great singer, she's very animated. The video was interesting, I hope they won't overdue it on the UMK stage, YLE is kind of notorious for ruining good songs by over staging them. Nevertheless, I probably won't vote for the song, it's just not my cup of tea.

@espotpod Look more carefully. You might come to notice the same reactions that I see like licking lips. It's possible that we read these small gestures differently. Listening, paying attention, by no means implies that the noise is enjoyable.
@TheLatokuivaaja15 күн бұрын
Yle is sometimes slow with UMK subtitles, but as others have said, professionally translated English subtitles have been added to Hitaammin hautaan. You just need to check the subtitles/cc language setting behind the gear icon on the video^^ I sometimes have auditory processing issues so I'm always checking pretty much all the videos if there's any language I can vibe with because generated and AI translated subtitles are often worse than no subtitles at all lol. I personally don't really listen to Nelli Matula either (this is the first song by her that I know I have listened to) - there's something about the breathiness in her voice quality that makes me squint and go "hmmm." I might get used to it, or I might not.
