umpire desicion #3 - Red Card

A red card for the attacker.
The defender get first a yellow card for his stick tackle, after the yellow card the attacker pushed the defender against the ground.

It is a red card, but he gives the red card to the wrong person. They stand next to each other. The umpire sees it wrong. So red card, yes, but not for that player

+Wiekert Jager I'm a Jr FIH umpire for the Under 18's and and he got the card right and gave it to the correct player, but the red player should have been given a yellow for abuse or. He walks up to the white player and seems to be shouting or what ever. Both players should have been carded.

Never mind Both should have been given red. White pushed and it seems it looks like the red player was trying to push the other white player

+PotatoChipz He clearly got the wrong player with a red, what needed to happen was that action needed to be taken quicker by the umpire, when people start crowding he needed to blow his whistle again and have the yellow card presented to the red player, that would have stopped the red card offence. Action earlier

5min Yellow for the tackle by Red. 10 min yellow for the push by White. extend 5min yellow to 7min yellow for red player for engaging in confrontation to prompt a reaction, then exaggerating the push/taking a dive/simulation. Understand the red was corrected to be given to the appropriate player, but still believe it's an excessive decision and umpire was "sold" on the offence by the dramatic dive from the red player, who should have been making his way off the field for his yellow not trying to hassle the white players and get a reaction.

I think the wrong player got red cared :o It seems that the play in white behind the player in white talking to the player in red pushed him. But the player in white near the red player walked away (taking the attention with him too). If you look just before 43 seconds in, and play the vid, you will see a white arm reaching past the player in white talking to the player in red. Sorry if that was worded confusingly. But basically the wrong player in white got red carded.

Yes teamwork is one of the keys to a good game! there are 24 players on a field, 11 team A, 11 team B and 2 umpires!

Yeah, probably a fair shout there, although the umpire might have though he had a good idea at the time of who it was. Teamwork with your other umpire in hockey is so key and important (throughout the game).

The umpire took the correct actions with the cards. It's possible the retaliation occurred because the attacker did not hear the initial whistle, which due to the nature of the tackle needed to be long and loud and repeated to show the umpire's displeasure, but there is no excuse for physically attacking another player if fouled. The tackled player should have let the umpire do his job.

First offence would of been a 10 minute yellow the retaliation was a definite Red Card, could not been anything else,

Yeah i have seen the whole match on youtube, thanks! About the red card. IT IS A RED CARD. It doesnt matter how hard the player gets pushed. This kind of things have nothing to do with the game. If a umpire accept things like this, it is goin to look like soccer, not?

i agree with you. The umpire did a good decision for the red card. About the yellow card i think he is also right. The umpire blowd his whistle twice, first for the foul, second for stopping the time. and the players all stop playing, so the attacker MUST heard the whistle. But yes, there is no excuse for his action.

The red card went to the wrong player. Watch it again. The player who was carded was not the player who pushed someone to the ground. SO yes the cards were right but it would be preferable if they are shown to the right players.

i don't thiks so. if it was something verba, there must be 2 red card. 1 for the push and 1 for the ''verbal''. so i think it was a good desicion towards the wrong player...

the person also should've been green carded for taking a dive, that push was not hard enough to cause the player to fall that hard on the ground so he took a dive to make it look worse than it was. it would still be an RC tho.

Yes because it is physical contact you can only get a red card by either hitting someone, and swearing at ref or opposition

Definitely NOT a red card, it was a small foul. A green card or on its highest a yellow card would be applicable.

I mean it's all soft. Red player obviously staged the fall, the shove wasn't that big. Playing high school hockey, I shoved a player to the ground (as a goalkeeper) but only got a green card. Though having said that, I came from playing Aussie rules football, so all the European sports have the image of look "soft" to me... (especially with staged/faked falling over).
