I’m not surprised whistleblowers received backlash. Truth hurts and most respond poorly. People seem to have a bad habit of turning against people who are bold enough to stand up and say we have an issue here.. Unfortunate for those who would stand up in effort to advance humanity. Given that history is absolutely awash with the convictions of innocent people, that's hardly any kind of argument. I'm certain that I could come up with 50 high profile cases where the convicted, and sometimes executed or lynched was completely innocent. It's for precisely that reason that witness testimony is increasingly being seen as unreliable in civilised courts across the planet. The memory, even of honest people is increasingly being recognised as unreliable at best, and a complete fabrication at worst. Our senses are notoriously easy to fool. And all of that is not counting the possibility of witnesses colluding or having agendas.
