Right now it's a mixed bag because of the veto power on the Security Council but they might be getting rid of it. I think a good mix of grass roots activism and working with the UN is key. Global Governance is vital. It means global coordination in times of global crisis, such as the coming climate crisis which has some scientists legitimately turning into apocalypse preppers. The UN was founded after world war 2. It's kind of like a democracy but with the heads of states casting the votes. Currently the system is a Global Confederacy, a loose coalition of states that work towards common objectives such as the sustainable development goals. The Global Federalist element within that system is the Security Council but it has a limited scope of peace and security and 5 states with veto powers, the USA, UK, France, Russia and China. There's talk of reforming the Security Council so it doesn't have the veto anymore. Then the Security Council will become more democratic and effective in times of crisis and less likely to be deadlocked. That's what this Summit of the Future in September is all about. @@langleybeliever7789

This is one of the most important speeches ever given in this Assembly. It will be played many years from now. When next generations look back at the destruction we did to our habitats and to ourselves, when we knew exactly what the problems and the solutions were but refused to act upon them. To future generations, it was a SHAME to see this Assembly not even half full and to see people leave during this speech. This zeitgeist is trapped in an old era that refuses to evolve at the pace the challenges we face require us to. To people in the future, be better, and just care. It's not difficult. The Secretary General has repeatedly displayed his angst and pain, caused by the amount of unimaginable suffering thrusted upon Gaza's population by HAMAS and ISRAEL. He seems to be also worried with the suffering of the hostages and their beloved ones. Could someone elaborate why after 11 months of this tragic situation, there is not a hint of sending a UN military force to Gaza, that would be handed the hostages by Hamas and send IDF back home ? Wouldn't t that stop all of this until a peace deal is achieved ? Why the Secretary General is always seems full of pompous words and void of any action ?
