AMENSALISM :Amensalism is any relationship between organisms of different species in which one organism is inhibited or destroyed while the other organism remains unaffected. There are basically two types of amensalism: competition and antibiosis. In competition, a larger or more powerful organism excludes another organism from its source of shelter or food. In antibiosis, one organism secretes a chemical that kills the other organism, while the one that secreted them chemical is unharmed. Two examples of antibiosis are provided by the bread mold Penicillium and black walnut trees.

female mosquito does not need human blood for survival, it need blood for nourishment of its eggs. so it does not classified into the definition of parasite. Thanks for making me search for the answer. now i clearly understood the parasite definition.

This video was superb not just because of the content but the manner in which you explained Mr.Saini! Hahah.. Brilliant.. I had the most enlightened time watching and learning from this video and ended with a quirky smile on my face! Well perhaps the reason why the female anopheles is called a vector and not a parasite is because it does not exactly feed herself of the blood but her fertilizing eggs( like you explained..reproduction not nutrients) and she just bites and leaves. Doesn't 'cling' on to humans.. :)

Here's a suggestion; if you could manage then do add previous year questions related to each lecture at the end of the topic,this would enable everyone to co relate the level of UPSC with the content of subject. Thank you.Keep up the good work !!

as Female anopheles mosquito does not completely depends upon human blood for their food,residence or transport,so it cant be classified as parasite of human. And as it provides one of the necessary stage for development of Malarial parasite,so its termed as Vector.

Answer to your question… Female mosquito is a vector because it carries and transmits infectious agent.. And it is not a parasite because a parasite never leaves its host.. Whereas female mosquito leaves its host… is it correct…??
@caustic5769 жыл бұрын
Sahil Swangla Furthermore, a parasite thrives on food for its entire lifecyle (like Plasmodium) but Anopheles Mosquito only does that during its reproductive cycle. Finally, there are certain characteristics of parasites like Roman mentioned (Loss of Digestive system, sensory organs)- mosquito doesn't qualify.
@baljeetsingh-fd7cd9 жыл бұрын
Sahil Swangla yeah in simple words parasite shud get benefit from host but anopheles does not get benefit but plasmodium will get which is transported by anopheles.it just transport thats y it is a vector not parasite...agree lil bit ?no+-

Sahil Swangla In the case of Mediterranean Ophyrus... the plant gets its pollination done. But what is the benefit for the bee? Can we call it commensalism or mutualism?
