If you place a piece of paper between the stop block and your piece, the fit will be absolutely perfect.

Nice simple method. For those who don't feel comfortable ripping the wood on the sled you can use a square on the fence/non cutting side (parallel to the blade) - but make sure that edge is square first. Safer and deadly accurate.

Great video and I like this method. It did the job, however my spline wasn’t absolutely consistent the whole way along. Only a very slight taper but one of my corners needed some sawdust and glue to fill. I might experiment with a thicker depth stop block, so when doing the long spline cut, there is more of the stop block to register against to get it absolutely parallel to the blade. My sled is absolutely square, but with 18mm thick stop block, there’s the chance it’s not completely registered at 90 to the fence of the sled/parallel to blade.

Great idea. Thank you for sharing., The only thing that bothers me with this method is the fact that you rip cut on the cross cut sled. Couldn't that be risky?
@ISIMPLYBUILTIT4 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I have no problems to rip cut small pieces on the sled. I think it depends on the wood type you cut.

Your taste in music is definitely lacking. What style is it, "Modern Irritation" ?
@Belg19706 жыл бұрын
I like the concept very much, you also have to make the your end is square to the length. And that your sled cut true. My only problem with this would be that I like to use scraps to make splines and not sure when using small pieces it would register correctly??

Beautifully simple idea; but harder than it looks in practice. I just tried this and cut 10 spines, I dont think I got more than 2 the same thickness. Looks like the alignment of saw and sled has to be perfect. Near enough is not good enough.

Inspire Woodcraft has a similar video but without the crosscut sled, which may take out some of the uncertainty that the sled might cause.

Maybe I am missing something, why not just move the stop block over to the width of the blade after the first spline is cut?

@briansmith89673 жыл бұрын
This one definitely works, this one is simpler and has fewer steps: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l6DbnaWFgLyHiM0 Once you make the part with the extra "foot" on it, you keep using it rather than having to make that cut over and over again.
@fredsasse99733 жыл бұрын
Yes, that too is great technique. In both cases it's a lot easier & more accurate to use the custom-cut-for-the-blade-thickness spline as a spacer when making a kerf cut for lap joints then to use some kind of a jig like others have demonstrated.
