Dee, I like that you involve yourself in working the ground and I see you're very much a countrywoman as my parent and other relatives. Despite growing up in town, I enjoyed the rural experiences the best. I had experienced banana, plantation, arrow root, rice, hominy corn and cornmeal porridges from the land. It is hard for me to choose the best but I'll go with both hominy corn and banana porridge on the list. Whenever you decide to carry any load on top head (Container of water, Basket of food or Banana bunch etc) the cushion that you first place on your head to bear the weight is called a "Kata" (A wrap of banana leaves or whisps or cloth etc,) in the countryside and the Jamaican local language there. I like that you share the meaning of machete "Panga" in your language. Take care, keep giving thanks to the Most High and enjoy life. JAH BLESS🙏🏿🙏🏿 🙏🏿.

Coastal Kenya, word "kata"
@overviewthem Жыл бұрын
@@smwaguya8155 That may just be a coincidence as sometimes various words may sound exactly alike in another language distances away but totally applies to a different meaning. As in this case I found out after using Google Translate for the meaning in Swahili for the same word and it comes up as "Cut" in English. However, in Jamaica and especially in the rural areas the word is used to describe a folded cushion of leaves from the banana or plantain plants, or leaves of the sort from any other plants, or simply a lengthy or short piece of cloth wrapped up and place on the top of one's head to ease the pressure of bearing a large container of water, or basket, or bags overladen with food or any other materials of sorts. Hope my explanation is clear and thanks too for that info on coastal 9 tribe. The first time I heard of that description. 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
