I think the water problem was secondary in this episode. I watched Young boys watch their dad labor and were willing to dig in with you. You send a great message to not only your own sons but Young men watching. I love seeing you and your wife raise children in a way that frankly, is a lost tradition. Letting them play rough, work hard and loving their momma. How refreshing it is to watch! I always watch and look forward to your channel. Keep up the good work. God, country and family! May God bless you and your family.

I live in an old house, that people say has character. Many times I'd like to dig up the character that built it, and slap him around! That was dirty, what they did, by burying that horrible plumbing job. You handled it very well... at least on camera

I’m impressed in the way your boys are willing to help work around the ranch. Your helping them to be independent an work knowledgeable. That will help them in the long run. My girls were reluctant to help around the house and in turn their children weren’t expected to help. They are growing up not knowing what needs to be done and how to do it. They will have to hire out things that they should have been able to do.

I’m feeling claustrophobic just watching you in that tunnel and under the house. No, thank you! Think of all the money that you are saving by doing the work yourself. Good job including your sons ( and not yelling at them when things aren’t going great). They learn by just watching it being done.

@bduncan9724 Жыл бұрын
I've been in the plumbing biz for over 30 years. I've personally had to dig under a number of slabs as well. Using union type compression fittings in this instance isn't a good idea. They can fail from settling or water hammering. You can heat the 11/2 pipe with a torch making it flexible after gluing a tee in the center. You can then use 2 couplings to stab line together. Then glue a 11/2 tee on to other tee and double 90 the one inch lines into the tee. You will have movement to raise one to stab onto other one 90. Lot of work and a major pain. Sorry your having to dealing with it.
@hatchstag Жыл бұрын
Your right, don't use compression fitting in waterline you are asking trouble ! I would use 1" pex pipe and put brass fitting

Ramzi, on our ranch, everyone was issued a Leatherman. Engraved they're name in it. If they lost it they replaced it. Looks to me like the biggest problem is your pipe is still under the slab. Rams, remember when you were a little boy and your mother took you to the Dr. Staheli up on 100 East? Well that building is called the R A Prince memorial building. R A Prince was a dentist. His son is a dentist also down on S main. R A was one of the DR's that built that building. He wanted to put his own sweat equity into the construction and was down under working on the plumbing and touched the hi voltage line while in the water. That was the end of him. Please get a cement blade on your saw and get that elect. line out that trench because I want to see you next year on the mt

Oh Ramzi, what a mess! I’m a volunteer Property Steward at a summer camp in the Adirondacks of upstate NY. We have nearly 5 miles of water supply lines to maintain, but they are all above ground. The compression type fittings are really good. They're available in a "T" configuration too. I've also use the unions, but had one that would not stop leaking because the "o" ring groove was milled too deep and I could not get enough compression on the "o" ring. The "rule" when doing home plumbing repairs is to, if possible, ALWAYS buy at least one more than you THINK you need of every fitting. Glad you had the extra compression coupling. Saved you a trip to Mesquite or Vegas.
@erichenry3637 Жыл бұрын
They make a telescoping pvc coupler also that extends out and bridges gaps. We use it often fixing broken irrigation lines.

Wow, sure kept us on the edge of our seats watching this video! What a challenge it was! Seems like whomever was in charge of setting the house up, & running the water & electrical, did not have a building inspector checking to see if they were meeting the building code. Also, like others have said, a shut-off valve for each house would be prudent. Although, doing so after the fact is not an easy job.

I just knew that those problems were gonna happen. Tightening the coupler nut to tight with those pipe wrench’s and pulling that plywood off and hitting the waterline causing it to bust loose. I would put some brick or block under the waterline to stabilize it when back filling your trench that way the weight of the dirt won’t put strain or stress on the waterline, Good Job!

Better leave it open for a long while. Those compression couplings can develop a leak, especially when not perfectly aligned or if ground moves in your area. Woulda glued that 1 inch before installing the compression couplings. Tough job.

Ha man I feel you. I spent most of my working life fixing other peoples dodgy work and half ass fixes that wouldn't have been hard to do in the first place. 🙃 I know everyone's giving advice so I'll just say think of the next guy. Mark on the slab where the power and water enter and at what depth and run 4in sewer pipe the length of the slab and put your 1 1/2in water pipe through it. Next guy will be inspired to think of the next gut.
