The clams you found on the pipe and elsewhere are called zebra mussels.They came from over seas in the ballast tanks of ships bringing goods here.When the ships come into port they dump the ballast tanks and we got the hitch hiking zebra mussels.

Salmon and trout snagging was 100% legal on Lake Michigan tributaries up until around the mid 80's. Bait shops would buy the eggs from the female fish to sell as bait, and a number of snaggers would gut the fish on shoreline, take the eggs, and discard the fish on the bank. This was a big reason that snagging was outlawed.
@joshuameredith42816 ай бұрын
My dad and his friends use to go salmon snagging when it was legal. But they would keep what they caught and smoke them.

As a long time viewer who was born in Algoma, I always wondered what you might catch in that river. Awesome! If you ever go back, go south from Olson Park, up the left brance. There is an old factory on each side. Watch the depth, it can get pretty shallow.

The can lid with the two punched triangles is an old oil can lid. Oil for car engine.. Tyler, when I got out of college, I worked at a gas station. Oil cans came to us made of heavy duty cardboard with metal bottoms and tops. To open them, we used a larger bottle opener which made a triangle opening and then pour the oil into an engine oil opening. The body of the can had a wax coating to keep the oil from leaking out. If someone pitched the can into the river, the body of the can would have eroded away leaving just the top and bottom for you to find.

Hello from Saskatchewan! That coin is a 10 Centavos coin from Mexico, and just like nearly all silver coins from there, they are made of stainless steel. A lot of the random piping pieces and gears you're finding look to be parts from an exhaust or transmission system in an old car. I'm helping my Dad restore a car right now, and let me tell ya, it's been a crash course in knowing ALL of its parts! And that spoked half-circle looks to be the remains of a valve wheel, like the one you see in classic submarines and on dams. And that last thing you found looks to be the top of a vertical boiler or a furnace. The round hole in its top was for the smoke exhaust, and the smiley-face-shaped hole as for heat bleeding. I've seen them made before so I recognized it immediately

Watching from right here in Wisconsin. Newton, near Manitowoc. Those fish I believe are Alewife, not minnows. They spawn in the fresh waters and then mature in the ocean. They also line our beaches of Lake Michigan in the summer and stink to high heaven!
