I miss ole Charlie, met him several times. Use to sit and listen to him play and sing. He lived just up the road outside of Gordonsville, Va on Rt. 15. He always had a story to tell.

Very nice! The instruments both sounded great, and John's singing was spot on.

That is only the second version I've heard of this song. Great job guys. I will be adding this one to my list of old songs to learn. Keep up the great picking and guitar reviews. Thanks

Beautiful rendition- you fellas play wonderfully. Jeremy is the reason I bought a mandolin and signed the wait list for lessons.

When I lived in Virginia, there was a fella from up Maryland way who co-wrote that song, and in them days he called himself a country gentleman, which was strange b/c it wasn't country around his part of Maryland, a Worshinton DC suburb... but he did hang with a fella name Charlie who did live in the country outside of Fredericksburg, Virginia... where I lived.... and we had a local doctor in F-Burg, who cured an ear infection I once had... well that guy who wrote that sad Sad Mary song... well.... the doctor and John the songwriter, well the doc was also named John... they wanted to form another band that was seldom scene except on Thursday nights up at the Birchmere, a sleazy lookin' place that had good music up in the Del Ray section of Alexandria on Mt. Vernon Ave.... the John who wrote that song wore funny pants and was always acting goooofy... and that Bringing Mary Home was a good 'un... they even play it way far away in Missouri someplace, I reckon.

Here they are, the Country Gentlemen - John Duffey (mandolin) Charlie Waller (guitar) Eddie Adcock (banjo) and Tom Gray (bass) - the 'classic' lineup, as some call it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sIOpfY2cq5yJrZo Well done John and Jeremy, a lovely version obviously inspired by this great group!

Beautiful guys! Would this translate well to octave mandolin?
