Unbox Something: Xesray's Berenice is ready to fight for glory...and kick your skull.

While the crimson clad Berenice is the second Combatants Fight For Glory figure I own and have opened, it's actually the first I'm uploading to the channel. I was really looking forward to this Xesray Studios figure, and in terms of sculpt and deco, it's an uncontested hit. However, as you'll see, I had a loose joint and some other little things that brought the mood down a little. Still, excited to have Berenice on the shelf ready to kick Skeltor's skull and stomp Aerethyr's flames. This is the first of the five figs from my long-awaited Combatants Wave 3 order, and all things considered, it sets a relatively high bar for the rest of the figs.
NOTE: I hope to the review of Ambillus that I shot in November edited and on the channel so you can check out some of the older figures from the line too. Spoiler alert! It's amazing. ✌🏾➕✊🏾

Oh man I love that the hair pops on the head with a little peg, all figures should of that for helmeted heads. Thats really smart

Absolutely. And actually, they don’t even have a peg, so there’s no weird hold in her skull (or forehead or temples, a la many of Mattel’s women). The hair fits the way a helmet would…the fit is what keeps it in place. So there’s a lot of work they put into it to make sure it looks good AND stays put, and that definitely deserves attention and emulation. Great stuff. Thanks for checking it out, Budd. ✌🏾➕✊🏾

💯 Curious to see how the other two women Combatants figs I picked up compare. Saw another review of Berenice on KZbin last night where dude snapped / separated the two halves of an ankle joint trying to remove the foot. He was pretty aggressive with the fig tho, and kept calling it “sexy” and commenting on the butt. 🫣 It was a little hard to watch. 🎵Womp. Womp. Womp. 🎶

Right? These are so great and having the bulk of a wave dedicated to a new woman buck is a great sign for what Xesray’s looking to do. Based on how well these sold out, we’ll be seeing more…hopefully with better joints and easier-to-swap parts. I can imagine the amazing customs you could pull off with these. ✌🏾➕✊🏾

I’ll throw up the review of the original male figure I unboxed and recorded in November (Ambillus the Beetle) soonish. It’s just as awesome in terms of sculpt and paint, but stronger elbow joints too…so far. They’re fantastic looking. I don’t know about you, but for my “version 2.0” old man collection, I’m limited by space and budget and leaned into checking stuff out that’s very different from my childhood collection and the stuff I grabbed in my 20s. That’s why I end up checking stuff out by these smaller companies. I’ve found some gems for sure, like the Boar and Wolf I reviewed on my channel, or the custom heads for my Masterverse. Just digging the artistry of these companies that definitely rivals the Mattels and Hasbros. Thanks for checking out the channel Jim! ✌🏾➕✊🏾

I like the figure, and the design is excellent but the joints do seem a little off to much gap maybe not all the figures are like that the fact that these are female figures is very cool. I love it as I could easily get my girls into this line. it also fits well with the masterverse figures I have collected I'm Interested in Great video and can't wait for the next one.

Hey hey!!! Thanks for checking it out. Yeah, these are amazing looking figs. Super poseable too. Absolutely look great with Masterverse…too good really, as Xesray does a lot more than Mattel in the sculpt, engineering, and paint app departments. But I have em mixed in with Masterverse, Mythic Legions, Super7 Ultimates, etc. I’m also super glad this company didn’t shy away from making women figs. I’ll say it: the boys club around action figure collecting needs to change some things and learn to be more welcoming too. I’ve seen some fan photos of these Xesray women figs putting them in awkward positions, disrobing em, focusing on the ability to do “wardrobe malfunctions” and show body parts, etc. Strange, considering He-Man and his homeboys are mostly topless and you don’t see nearly as much scrutinizing the attractiveness of their bodies, the full on disrobing or removal of armor, making the boys’ nipples peak out from under the armor, or commenting on Skeletor’s butt. Even if the toy companies make more women, I’m pretty sure young girl toy fans would have to deal with all sorts of other unaddressed garbage from a portion of the fans who aren’t super thoughtful. Gotta work on that so your kids and others can truly thrive in the action figure game without feeling unsafe or cautious. We got work to do. ✌🏾➕✊🏾

I also gotta edit that old one of Ambillus I shot in frikkin November! 🤦🏻‍♂️ It’s a great fig, as you probably saw in the fig comparison shots. It’s an intriguing line for sure. They’re making Minotaurs for the next wave! 🤯

This one and her friends demand a great rocky structure of painted foam to stand next to! Ideally one that can help them hold up a shield. 🤦🏻‍♂️

@@BrickSomething haven’t got to the shield part but the sculpt on this figure is immense. It’s nice to see a female figure that looks feminine rather than too masculine or too sexualised, they seem to have hit the right balance. I did look to pick one of these up after seeing another review not too long ago but I couldn’t locate any without paying over the odds. She will look great with your mythic legions

My Berenice also has loose arms, i think i might be a problem only on her design, i also have Vlattia and she's solid in all joints, don't know about the black gladiatrix since i missed on her

I have all three and love em. Yeah, this was their first run at the women body type. Things will only get better. That said, they’re really amazing figures. Reminds me…I need to film Vlattia.

Yeah I don't get the point of that holster on the back when neither the sword or spear can fit in it. That was the biggest misstep in my mind. The joints on my figure seem to be all ok. I never bothered to change out her feet cause I liked the sandel look. I did play around with the hands a couple times. I did have one other flaw with a leather piece on her left side being bent up when i took it out of the package. Almost like it cooled that what and the plastic has hardened in that position. So yeah overall the figure is really nice looking but could have been better.

Appreciate you checking out the video and giving me a sense of how this fig went for you. Glad I’m not crazy about that sword / dagger holder thing. For a while I thought I might’ve lost a dagger or something. That’s the only decent explanation…something happened and a planned dagger wasn’t made or packed in. 🤷🏻‍♂️ I think I may give the feet one more try. 🤞🏾

If you heat the strap on her back you should be able to get the sword into it, I didn't have any trouble with mine but I had soaked her in hot water first because I was paranoid about snapping joints. Might have to heat it again to get it out though. Sucks about the arm joint though, easy enough to fix but at 65usd RRP you shouldn't have to.

I’ll try the sword thing, but it looks like there’s a lot of excess material in that holder to get around the width of the blade. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Still doesn’t take away from the great things about the figure, but it does make me hesitate just a little bit as I start getting into the rest of the line. Do you have any tips / experience with changing out the feet?

@@BrickSomething Yeah it might be something went wrong with yours, another reviewer had the same problem but it doesn't seem to be widely reported and mine took a bit of force but not enough to make me worry I'd break it.I haven't been brave enough to try popping her feet off yet, I've heard the ankles are one of the potential weak point for these figures

U forgot to remove the armour

Thanks for checking out the video. I don’t normally remove armor or switch things out with my unboxings / impressions unless I don’t like the look and want to customize or change something. The main thing I wanted to do was switch out the feet and one hand. Chickened out on the feet because of the resistance. Do you happen to have her? Any tips on getting the feet off? ✌🏾➕✊🏾
