Who Crew! Very kind of Adam to send these tapes to you and also the lanyard and a sticker too. It's interesting how the UK marketed the VHS tapes differently than here in the states. Is it me or does the video quality look better filming against that color background? I noticed you used the microphone from the old table top days. ( I say old but it was only a couple of years ago) Thank you Adam for growing Alex's collection.

Adam's very kind indeed, John! Reminds me of a certain "John" guy I know... lol! 😂 I'm glad the quality looks better! I was filming on my DSLR which I normally use for B-roll rather than my Camcorder which I normally film on. I do want to film more on the DSLR for better quality, the risk is if I set the focus wrong (easy to do when filming yourself) then the whole video is slightly blurry, but in great quality! Haha. Also it shuts off after 12 minutes so I have to set a timer for 11 minutes, lol! 😂 The microphone is back! On screen anyway! I always use it, just normally with my Lapel mic which may be dying on me, so I'll be replacing that lapel mic soon! Anyway, thanks for listening to the technical ramble! I'm glad you noticed the quality difference!

That version of The Time Warrior, like all the earliest UK DW VHS tapes, is an omnibus cut of the story rather than episodic. Presumably due to an editing mistake it is also missing a few seconds footage from what would be the beginning of episode 2.

@@TheDoctorWhoGuide Any UK VHS with that style of artwork will be a omnibus cut rather than episodic. Many were later rereleased in episodic form with alternative (ie better) artwork. The Time Warrior wasn't one of them. Is there any way of finding out which UK VHS titles you have as I've one of the rarer UK releases that if you need it I'd like to send you by way of a thanks for the enjoyment I get from your channel.

These days you can pick up secondhand VCRs for at most £5 in charity shops. I bought one about 8 years ago and it still works. They're worth having as there'll always be a certain film or TV show that never got a DVD or blu-ray format. Be warned however that modern HD TVs really show up the poor picture quality of the format, even more so when you play a NTSC format tape rather than the native PAL format.

I kind of miss having dozens of those UK VHS on my shelves. Think as far as Classic Who is concerned all I now own are Silver Nemesis (for the VHS cut and the documentary that I'm sure isn't on the blu-ray set), Curse of the Fatal Death plus the Tom and Colin Baker Years documentaries. Still got maybe fifteen Reel Time type spin offs and unoffical documentaries on the format though.

Who Crew! Another radical haul! Some great stories too. I agree it’s hard to pick any bad Pertwee stories cause he had very few bad ones. I wonder if the tapes are region locked like the UK DVDs?

Thank you, Henry! Pertwee's Doctor had a consistently good era! The VHS tapes are region lock as in they're PAL and need a PAL VHS player and I've got an NTSC player, so I'll need to get a UK VHS player now if I want to watch those VHS tapes.

great that you've gotten some uk vhs tapes, I have a few myself, two copies of the davros collection set, the genesis of the daleks/sontaran experiment double pack and the war games. Interestingly, the war games isn't in the usual clippy vhs type box, it's just in a cardboard slipcase, two tapes, 5 episodes to each tape. The davros collection tapes have a cover insert that unfolds on the inside, with information on the left similar to what is on the leaflet that comes with the old classic series dvds. so that's sort of on a flap, you have to take the cover out to open it and read the reverse side, then behind that there are adverts for other doctor who videos on the left, audio cd released on the inside spine and books on the right. the earlier release with genesis and TSE together has the white background and adverts for various non-who BBC video releases on the left and right.

I used to have them all! But then the DVDs started coming out and eventually I gave most of them to a friend. I’ve got at couple in the loft, which are the tins; Trial of a Time Lord plus The Chase and Remembrance of the Daleks.

You might have to check this but I have the Frontier in space VHS it has a few opening and closing titles mistakes summer upside down and at least one episode has the 10th anniversary theme on it or at least it did on mine if it’s on yours then that makes it a rare VHS due to the fact it has mistakes on it

I've not looked into it before, but after some googling, it does seem that an NTSC Player that actually plays PAL is a very rare thing, so I'll probably have to keep an eye out to try and find a PAL VHS Player.
