It was never going to be perfect white. It's not sun damage and whatnot that yellows them, so being in a package that wasn't vacuum sealed didn't make a difference.

The bromine in the plastic they used back in the day will eventually cause it to all figures. UV light, chemicals, etc will speed it up. I bet the top of the wampa had a piece of tape and it's a rebox. You can see the body piece prolly has a bit more bromine in the mix compared to the arms. Soaking the fig in Oxyclean with some UV light will pull out the bromine on a surface layer and make it white.

Plastic will yellow over time and action features will weaken even when they've been sealed in packaging for 40 years.
@stlnprfln13 жыл бұрын
Especially if it was not in a climate controlled environment for those 40 years. That plastic allows yellows in elevated heat or extreme cold. The old NES systems are bad about it.

Broski, have you tried SALON 40? It will re-whiten yellowed plastic. You can "paint" it onto the figure and wrap it in plastic and leave it out in the sun for about an hour. It will remove that yellow. I do it on old GI Joe toys.

@sampauwelsАй бұрын
As an avid Wampa collector (I have 270 wampas and counting) I can say none of them are 100% white. The yellowing in the plastic just comes over time. The more sunlight it gets the more yellow. The legs probably have an other chemical composition because the don't yellow at all. The yellow/brown on the head is indeed glue. Every wampa had springy arms, but the rubber band deteriorates over time. There are no variations in mold or paint, they're probably all manufactured in the same factory, or from the same mold. Because I have so many wampas I can compare and I did find one thing where you can see if it saw al lot of light or not: The eyes. If the eyes have a red hue, it's been in the dark for a long time. The paler the back in the eyes, the more UV light it got. Yours has a lot of red in its eyes, or so it seems in the video. So I guess it's always been in the box, or at least for a very long time. I'm not sure if it's the legit box. Tape of that age might go yellow and brittle too. Yours seemed to come off a bit too easy. On the other hand, I've seen 'em with good tape too. Too bad you did't cut the tape with a knife, I saw the tape took the print off the lid. Also, I'm not sure if it's the correct booklet. For what I can remember there are (at least) two booklets of that size. One with a brown-ish cover and one with a blue-ish cover. Yours is a brown one. I have a boxed wampa (open box) with a blue covered booklet. So this could go both ways. Oh and for the box: There are 7 variations in boxes. I have 6, and still looking for the Canadian variant. So if anyone has that one, drop me a message :) Anyways, thank you for this video, I really liked it. If I was you, I'd keep that wampa out of the sun :)

Wouldn't soaking the Wampa figure in 7% H2O2 Hydrogen Peroxide and placing it under UV light restore it to its minty white? There are many videos of people that use this method to restore yellowed plastic by doing this procedure. There are even videos of a Millenium Falcon and an X-Wing that were restored using this method.
