In this video, I unbox an electric eel. We also talk about Aristotle's theory of spontaneous reproduction and how glass / European eels confused famous scientists throughout history.

Heres my theory for why Aristotle believed in Spontaneous Generation. He played too many video games. He probably tried to make a real mob spawner to farm bones, arrows etc

I searched up and the internet said there are no male eels , i believe they might reproduce by themselves , like how female Komodo dragons can lay eggs without a male. But i could be wrong 😑 i should research further
@ryanrivera2303

“Most Anguilla anguilla eels lack reproductive organs; however, scientists can bring them to sexual maturity by treating them with hormones. With hormone treatment, eels can be brought together in captivity to reproduce. In the wild, however, during the last phase of their complex life cycle, they do develop reproductive organs. This final stage is known as the silver stage, and during this stage, the eels’ stomach dissolves before their sexual organs develop. This means the eels die soon after reproducing, which has made the mystery of eel reproduction even more challenging to work out.”

I could see how Aristotle came up with spontaneous generation. As a child (around 8 at the latest), with no knowledge on said spontaneous generation, I didn't understand where flies came from and so I just assumed that they came out of the old food that was left out. Same with worms and other creatures. When I first heard about spontaneous generation it was baffling to me that I wasn't the only human being that thought that and the fact that it was a legitimate scientific theory confuses me even more considering the fact that that was my first observation.

7:00 This is a test, right? Ok -- I'll call it: Plinius dE died quite famously during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 a.d. -- that is aproximatly 420 years before the middle ages begin and right halfway through antiquity! How could ANYONE not know that? (Remember: shoulders of giants -- intelligent people learn from their own mistakes, wise people learn from the mistakes of others ^^) Very entertaining video overall - and i love it when museum collections are actively used 👍
