THIS WEEK’S FEATURED WATCH: Everose Rolex Day-Date 40 ref. 228235

“Everose” first appeared in the Rolex catalog in 2005. The lustrous and warm reddish color is achieved via a thoughtful blend of pure gold, copper, and a tiny amount of platinum. The result is a far superior rose gold finish than other brands that maintains a stunning sheen and never dulls or fades.
Today, Everose is an option for many of the brand’s flagship models, including sport and dress watches. Ref. 228235 is the 40mm edition of the Day-Date, which Rolex released in 2015. As a current-production Rolex, it offers all the latest in Rolex watchmaking technologies and is a truly magnificent timepiece, inside and out.
Day-Date 36 vs. Day-Date II vs. Day-Date 40
For decades, Rolex only produced the iconic “President’s Watch” in 36mm. However, the larger 41mm Day-Date II was released in 2008 to keep up with evolving watchmaking trends. While it seemed to satiate collectors’ desires for larger timepieces, there was still much room for improvement. In 2015, the Day-Date 40, with perfectly refined proportions and a shiny new movement, took its place alongside ref. 228235.
Ref. 228 235 sports the coveted 40mm case, outfitted with Rolex’s patented Twinlock screw-down crown, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, engraved rehaut, and a glittering fluted bezel.
Of course, the case is also accompanied by the Day-Date’s signature semi-circular link bracelet - also known as the President bracelet. On this model, the bracelet is closed by a sleek Crownclasp, which is almost indistinguishable save for the tiny Rolex coronet.
60th Anniversary Rolex Day-Date 40
The Olive Green dial Everose Rolex 228235 debuted during Basel World 2016, which is quite significant because that year also marked the 60th anniversary of the inaugural Day-Date. Rolex often likes to acknowledge various anniversaries by incorporating its signature green hue into new models, and that is exactly what they did with this watch.
And we are sure glad they did. The radiant sunburst finish and muted tones of the olive dial pair quite harmoniously with the warm Everose finish. Sharply faceted stick indices alternate with Roman numerals, giving the watch a classically elegant aesthetic without crowding the dial itself, an ingenious design element on Rolex’s part.
The dial also sports the staple jump date at 3 o’clock and the day spelled out in full at 12 o’clock.
Lastly, there is the movement. The caliber 3255 is a next-generation Day-Date caliber, which took the place of the long-running caliber 3155 and brought with it a more efficient Chronergy escapement, thinner barrels, new lubricants, and, more importantly, a longer 70-hour power reserve. Overall, this movement is more efficient and reliable than its predecessor.
Five years after its anniversary debut, this Rolex still mesmerizes. Let us know your thoughts on this week’s live unboxing in the comments section below.
