I've just bought this filter, it came with a base plate that blocks those holes off.

I got one of these filters recently and haven't had chance to open it yet. Great work on the unboxing, will be interested to hear how you get on with it!

and as I comment this you come back after two days to give an update hahaha

It wasn’t meant to include an update (should have been a second video with a review) but it was pretty important to include it before other people use this filter with clown killifish 😅

Pro tip- there is a hole in the front of the suction cup. Use a Phillips screwdriver, press the tip of the screwdriver into that hole , then press the suction cup against the hole and twist in a clockwise direction. The suction cups are designed to “screw” in , not be pushed in.

You got me wondering, I want to buy one of these and other videos show them with a base plate attached, do some come without or did you just buy a 'friday model' ?

My base plate was missing, I did another video following this one reinstalling the filter once I got hold of one from Oase. It was just missing from the box (I reckon someone had opened it, dropped it in store and it got lost)

What about putting some fine mesh material around lower half of this filter ? Could be green black or even grass-like.

@naconitu1708 So it turns out I actually was missing a critical base plate on this filter! Oase sent it out to me when I realised (when it was pointed out to me) and now it works brilliantly! Check the pinned comment for a link to an updated video of it now installed in this aquarium

Its a real shame that they have designed this filter without keeping in mind tiny fish or shrimp. I've been looking for a long time for a shrimp safe filter and it has proven very difficult. The Aquael pat mini works pretty well, but doesn't have much in the way of media. There seem to be some small canister filters releasing that might be suitable from UNS or Green Leaf Aquatics, but I haven't had experience with these personally.

Yeah it seems like a they messed up a bit with the design here. It’s actually the pat mini that I’m trying to replace because I just think it’s too small and I want the ability to use a fine wool to polish the water a little. I’d love to stick an external or HOB filter but there is no way I can squeeze it in.

I have been thinking about that... I also have the pat mini, because it's safe for shrimps and nano fish. And since it's just a sponge with a hole in it at the bottom, shouldn't it be possible to just change that sponge to any kind of bigger one with a hole in it. Or maybe that will effect the flow in a bad way? I like the pat mini so much that I probably just will buy more of them and have several in the same aquarium if needed 😅

@@NinniAquariums I totally think you'd be able to adapt the bottom piece to fit on the uplift tube of most sponge filters.
