This is the last of my recent purchases that I made to prepare for some paint work on the Camaro. I have never had a proper explosion proof exhaust fan. When you paint, the fumes and vapor from the paint are not only hazardous, but under the right conditions they can ignite. I did a great deal of searching to find a fan that met my budget. Explosion proof fans are meant for industrial use and are therefore usually quite expensive, many were $1000 to $2000. This one was actually under $200 plus about $50 for the duct. Vevor sells these in different sizes, it looked to me that the 12 inch model moved enough air. It is rated at about 2700 cfm. If you consider a hypothetical garage stall 10 feet wide, 9 feet high and 30 feet long, that is 2700 cubic feet and this fan could do a full air exchange every minute. In reality, considering efficiency, it would likely be less than that, but it's a reasonable comparison. Note that this fan does not come with a plug installed on the power cord. I walk through the installation of a plug as well. The wires in the cord are not normal US color code, but rather international colors. That requires a little more care to be sure the plug is installed correctly.

I bought this fun because it’s supposed to be explosion proof but reading the instructions it says… “Do not use near flammable fumes or dust. Ventilator has internal arcing parts that will ignite flammable fumes/dust. So I’m confused now.

I would be very careful with that warning and check with the seller. I did not find that warning with my fan. I have been relying on Vevor's marketing information and manual. They claim it is ATEX (European) certified for hazardous locations and post copies of certification documents. I don't have my fan close by to check, but I think it has the ATEX reference on the rating plate. One thing to check is the model number. Vevor claims the "BTF" series fans are explosion proof. They also sell other fans that look very similar that are not explosion proof.

I have now had a chance to get to storage and look at my fan. It is a BTF-30 with the following markings: CE Explosion Proof EX EX-Mark d IIB T4 Gb I am not expert, so check this yourself, but per online lookup, it appears that Ex-mark is per EN 60079-0 for gas explosion protection: The documents I found says "d" means flameproof enclosure, IIB means protection for type of gas of medium ignitability (ethylene), T4 means max temp of components is 135 C (275F), Gb is some type of level of protection indicating that it should not be too hot and should quench flame. Check your rating plate.

Hi this is Bob wanted to ask you how does this fan work for you Iam going to paint my 1969 rs z/28 camaro I have a single car garage so did it clear your garage good need to know because I'm thinking about getting the one you have did it clear it out fast please let me know thanks Bob.

I was very happy with it. I was only shooting large components vs an entire car, but I had no issues. It pulled the air through very well. I have painted before where the air was thick with mist because I didn't have enough fan - I had rather clear air. I was probably running my cup about half full and spraying continuously until the cup ran out. So, I can't say for sure, but if I had a full car to paint, I would use it. In the description section I noted that at 2700 CFM it should exchange air volume in a single stall about once every minute or two. It needs a 3 prong, 15 Amp, 125 Volt grounding plug. There are many options, some are more rugged or easier to assemble than others. Here is an example of one from Leviton: www.homedepot.com/p/Leviton-15-Amp-125-Volt-3-Wire-Plug-Yellow-R10-515PV-0YL/309610976
