Unboxing Batko 1400 XL Beltgrinder

This is the unboxing, assembly and initial test runs of my new Batko 1400 XL belt grinder.
I was looking for a 50 mm belt grinder however most of them where out of my price range. The Batko belt grinder turned out to have an affordable price yet present a good build quality.

Just received my batko 1400 xl last week.. Just 5 days between command and unpacking !!! Very good packaging No mounting problems Works like a charm Probably one of the only European belt grinder manufacturers with a very good product and a nice price.

hey, im thinking of buing the batkoxl standart configuration belt grinder, and i couldnt find out if the angle of the front part can be changed. i see you have a pivot on there but on their website it looks diffrent. so, before spending so much money, i thought i'd just ask

3 years after this video, how do you feel about it currently? Happy with it or wish you had gotten the 3000 or Radius Master? Also, thanks for making the video! Believe it or not, it is helpful to other people, even today.

Hello, nice machine, congratulation! They changed the design for the flat platen ? How fast is this engine ? Think you add an inverter? Sorry for all these questions, but I'm interested, :)

I think I would add an inverter if I had the bigger engine. Don't know anything about any previous platen design though

So, almost a year later, are you happy with the machine? I'm looking at this grinder myself, I'm just a bit hesitant since it seems to be built from such thin materials. Many belt grinders are built very sturdy, for example Gundogs belt grinder kit from UK is made from 10 mm steel, this one seems to be 1mm at most.

I have not experienced that the construction is too week. And the price is quite compelling as well. However I think the model I have is a bit small. If you'd buy a knife grinding jig it is going to be too big for this model, the platen is too short and the support is too high up on the platen. I have 220V motor and I would like to have a little more speed sometimes when removing material. If I would buy one today I would take a look at the xl model which you also can pivot. That being said, given the price and also reasonable prices on belts through Batko I think it is a nice machine that I use alot, not only for knife making

@@TheArchmonkey Good to hear. I'm not really into knife making so that shouldn't be a concern for me. I do general blacksmithing and wielding an angle grinder with just one hand for detail work is killing my right hand. That's why I'm looking at this. The price is very reasonable, the only comparison is really Gundogs kit which I would have to weld myself. (Förresten, är du svensk och jag skriver på engelska helt i onödan?)

@@rsteen78 haha, ja jag är svensk. Kanske blir lättare om vi tar det på svenska 😀 Med rätt slipband så tuggar den material riktigt bra, mycket bättre än en slipskiva (t.o.m en flapdisk) plus att plattan gör det lätt att få det slätt. Det som är lite synd är att det är en ovanlig längd på slipbanden så man blir typ tvungen att köpa från Batko. Nu har de ju ett bra sortiment och rimliga priser så det är inte ett jätteproblem

@@TheArchmonkey Ja det ser jag nu på deras sida, 1500-1650 mm var ju en lite muppig storlek. Inte helt okänd dock, så det funkar väl. Ja är den ok för dig som gör knivar - det gör inte jag - så borde den räcka för mina behov, jag räknar inte alls med lika mycket slipning som vid knivtillverkning. Jag tar nog med 400V-motorn, jag har ju trefas i verkstan.

Jag tycker fortfarande den ser lite klent byggd ut, men det kan ju vara jag som är skadad. Bygger gärna saker så att de klarar att bli överkörda av en stridsvagn även om det inte krävs. Objektivt sett kan jag väl tycka att materialet som använts borde räcka bra, SÅ stora krafter handlar det inte om. Och har du inte fått några problem på ett år så...

It has been such a huge improvement from my 1x30 beltgrinder. If I would wish for something it would be a longer platen. If I'm using a grinding jig there is not enough platen for e.g. kitchen knife blades. I got the budget variant with the one phase engine, but I think the bigger engine could be an improvement together with the inverter. But overall I'm really happy with it

Alltså, för det priset är den bra. Det jag saknar är en större platta och att kunna vicka den 90 grader. Den blir lite begränsande pga av det. Sen är det inte superlätt att få tag på slipband nån annanstans än hos batko. Hittade nyss några varianter på carls.nu så det är ett alternativ iaf.
