Unboxing budgets 5HP 2 strokes outboard engine- Hidea and Mercury 2021

Tiny engine and budget. Not too slow and not too fast. It’s ideal for Fishing.
Hidea (combination tech from Japan Mercury + Yamaha). You can see the similarities top component of outboard engine with Mercury, below similar with Yamaha.
Mercury's -good option for long term investment. The sparepart common in market.
Both brands are good, if you have an extra budget go for mercury.
Tips; new engine, please don't use the choke unless required. You will getting hard to start the engine, please follow the guidelines.

Also, I am pretty sure the Mercury is just a rebranded Tohatsu. Which is trusted brand in small outboards.

No "both brands are not good". My friend has the Hidea, though in Chinese fashion they branded it a 6hp... Anyways, it looked like crap with so much corrosion on the leg after just 6 months use. And it was always rinsed after each use. So, they have obviously cut corners on the alloy and/or anodizing. I have literally seen +20 year old Yamahas that even with hard sea water use looked better than the Hidea did after 6-12 months. Perhaps, if you only do fresh water sailing, the Hidea is good enough but over a long enough time line - in ocean water - it's not even good enough for the price as the Japanese engine will last decades and the Hidea most likely will not.

@@joemaydaytv7354 Yeah, sadly can't recommend that. I am actually trying to figure out how to keep this engine alive. Most of the paint/anodization has now stripped off the leg. If I had a sandblasting facility near here - which I don't - I would let them blast it down to bare metal but I will have to do that by hand sanding. And then either recoat with a 2pack polyurethane or epoxy.

@@AntiVaganza thanks for the answer, oh man thats a lot of work...how's the engine it self doing? Dose it take a lot of repairs? Engine just started to sell in my country couple of years ago so can't find any decent rewievs.

@@joemaydaytv7354 So far, it's doing kinda well enough on the spinning a prop side of things... We did have it crap out/run badly three times. First time around, it needed a new plug. Next two times, I did carb cleans but not sure I can blame that on the engine. Might be that the fuel here is not clean enough (I am based in the Philippines). To be fair, the carb did look pretty clean when I last took it apart in terms of corrosion. The next thing I would be worried about is the quality of the cables. No guarentee that the Chinese cloners are using proper marine grade, so they may crap out at some point. Nothing yet, tho. The Hidea 6hp is coming up on two years but I also have access to a 30 year old Yamaha 8hp and we just had to cut an inch off of the end of the spark plug cable on that one to get to some fresh, clean wires. I think that's alright after 30 years near the ocean;)

@@AntiVaganza man i am super thankful for your in depth review, yamahas, mercuryes, tohatsu and so on are 700ish € more expensive (5,6 hp range) but i think i ll go for tohatsu in the end, just have to save up more money lol we had in croatia excelent slovenian tomos brend but they are no more on the market, had 2, one for 40 and second for 35 years in my familly, sold them when i sold the boat now bought a new boat had no idea engines market changed so much 😅 thanks once again you absolute legend!

worst engine ever it did 70 hours and the head split in two pieces . it was a 15 hp . thank you hidea for destroying my dream.

Yea, we should aware the parts quality right😅, anyway the parts looks like same as Mercury, Definitely Mercury is better. For sure..
