By the way, is it safe to grip the clutch then press the trigger to tighen/untighten it? I've tried that with my old cheap bauker combi but it didnt do anything and actually seemed like it was just breaking it.

No, it is not safe if you press the trigger to a maximum speed. But if you do press the trigger gently the chuck will start rotating slowly and then you should not have any problems to tighten the drill.

Everybody does this. I do this with dewalt and makitas all the time. If this breaks the drill then it deserves to be broken

Where do you live? Because in the United States the Dewalt DCD709 is an Atomic Brushless Hammerdrill, while your version of the same serial number is the XR line of Dewalt.

Dewalt DCD709 for US and Ca is ATOMIC 20V MAX version and for Australia, NZ, UK and the rest of Europe is 18V XR. But is the same machine just different labels.

DCD709B and DCD709C2 drills you can easily control the speed through a variable speed button.

Yes. I have one and its performance for home use or even light professional use is fine. It is surprisingly small and compact, though, and I would use my DeWalt 700 watt corded drill for really heavy jobs, though.
