Unboxing Mackie's Big Knob - passive monitor controller - what were you thinking?

The quest to 'optimize the PedalScapes workflow continues...
This one was fun to make! Hard to keep a straight face though.
So this is the unboxing and in place test - keep in mind that the audio for the test was captured on a Phone so not the highest quality but what can you do?
The plumbed in unit now sits under the monitor on the PedalScapes work bench/desk. Where it joins either the Evo 16 or the SSL12 to either set of monitors.
So thoughts on the unit:
Pretty useful studio tool, have used passive monitor controllers in the past but this has some great features...
Having used Mackie's mixers before, the quality of the sound seems to be consistent (i.e. good). At first I was concerned that it sound much lower through the unit than connected directly. Then, I realised that for the level to be the same the volume on the big knob would need to be at maximum (as it's a passive unit and offers no amplification or boost). So to give a little bit of play with the big knob you will need to have your source output a little higher than normal (unless you want to just keep it maxed out all the time).
The Mono, mute and dim all function as expected.
Initial thoughts are: a useful tool and great addition to the PedalScapes setup.
Missed opportunity on marketing blurb:
"For a modest fee you too could impress friends, associates and potential suitors with your Big Knob!"

I do have a big knob like yours! Your video is very well produced and it looks like you have a great setup. May I ask: are you using powered monitors? What kind of cabling are you using? My big knob is cutting the volume so low that it’s impossible to compare one monitor pair with the other so I’m looking for errors I could have made. Thanks

Nice one Chuck! Thanks for the feedback. Main monitors are passive with a separate amp and secondary are powered desktop type... Yes, definitely noticed a volume drop but got used to it after a while... I'm using pretty standard balanced cables from my audio outs, nothing expensive or fancy. After setting the output levels a bit higher on my output sources it seemed to balance the levels a bit better... cheers, Matt 😎
