Unboxing my Simplex Kettle

I have just received a very exciting delivery - my Simplex Kettle, made in the UK by Newey and Bloomey.
Newey and Bloomer are the original British manufacturers of the Simplex kettle since 1903
Genuine. Original. Unique. 100% lead-free.
Now that I am living in my forever home I am keen to buy forever things to use. A Simplex kettle was at the very top of my list. These kettles are very often spotted in period dramas, including Downton Abbey as well as in the homes of many celebrity A listers. For me though, my buying decision was made on aesthetic style, quality, British made and potential longevity - I'm hoping this will last me a lifetime.
I opted for Simplex Highgrove No. 1 which is suitable to use on my solid fuel Aga Rayburn hotplate -

Newey & Bloomer Ltd was founded by Frederick Bloomer and Charles Herbert Newey in 1850. They began by manufacturing an assortment of barbershop fittings, bar tops and bed warming pans. Using their expertise in copper, Frederick and Charles produced their very first kettle in 1903. They called it the Simplex Kettle.
Simplex kettles are made to the exact patent as originally made in 1903. No other company has this length of tradition using the original patent and the artisan skilled training that was handed down through the generations.

Fabulous kettle! I have very recently had my Rayburn removed from my kitchen, totally devastated but needs must. I miss it but not the dust it created lol, thankyou for your videos x

Ah that's a shame. Yes the dust is a way of life which can be hard to live with sometimes.

I just bought one, but when I put it on the boiling plate the base cups and wobbles from side to side. It boils slowly due to only the middle making contact. Very strange

That doesn't sound right at all. You definitely bought a Simplex? I know there is a rip-off company who look very similar but who are far inferior.. If you aren't happy, please, please please contact Newey and Bloomer. They're such a great company, with their heart and soul dedicated to making quality kettles which are made to last. They have really good customer service, so they'd really want to make you a happy customer. BTW, I'm in no way linked to Simplex. I just feel passionate about championing brands who produce quality products with craftsmanship and care.

Thank you for the video, it would be great to hear the sound of the kettle pouring the water. It’s when the water comes out of the kettle that is important…is it a smooth pour or does it sputter and gurgle …,but instead you included just another piece of musak rather than the actual sounds the kettle mix for this very expensive price.

I have been saving up for about 3 years for one of these kettles, but am now having second thoughts about spending so much money on a kettle. What's your opinion of it after having it for a couple of years now?

Honestly? I love it. I love how well made it is, and I also love the thought of never having to buy another kettle. It will out live me.

My husband will soon retire and I am feeling like I need to get nice things now if I want them cause I won't be able to afford them once he retires. But then I start thinking it is wasteful of me to spend so much on a kettle. But I have never in my whole life been one to splurge on things for myself, so maybe this once is ok??? I think I would get a lot of joy out of it.

do you realise you invalidated your warranty the first time you put it on an aga? their website clearly states " Suitable for Gas and Electric stoves Not suitable for hot plates such as Agas and Rayburns or induction hobs without an induction hob adaptor" the buckihgham that we bought can only be used on gas stoves!

Hi, thanks for your comment. I believe you are mistaken. This is a Simplex Highgrove. If you take a look at the Highgrove blurb online, you'll see that this is perfect for Agas and Rayburns. I was very careful when I selected the right kettle for my needs and contacted Simplex before committing, just to make sure and for peace of mind. Do give Simplex a call if you are considering making a purchase, they are ever so helpful and a give the best advise.
