Hi Greg. I'm a new subscriber 🙏When you dragged the knife over those sails, my heart almost jumped out of my chest 😂 Anyway, great kit:) Mine is on its way 😊 Looking forward to the build 👍

Thanks for subscribing . The knife it's actually quite blunt so the sails are fine 😉 I watched the video after and thought that wasn't particularly bright lol but they are fine 👌

Are you already afraid of being idle as the end of the incredible Soleil Royal construction site looms?😅😅👍👍

Haha no chance of being Idle now 🤣

It's been decades since I built my last wooden ship. I don't know if my hands are steady enough to do the rigging now. I made woodworking my business/income so my hobby suffered. The scale details are incredible on this ship.

That's what attracted me to it , the details. Being only my second build I hope I'm up to doing it justice.

@@GregWilson635 I just found your channel, 2nd build? good luck man! I've built 4, first sucked (I was only 12) got a billings bluenose for $3.00 in a 2nd hand shop but got better and better with each time. my last one, I didn't like the braces they used to support the shrouds/stays so I got some 10 ga copper wire, hammered it flat and made my own. It might not be "historically" accurate, but looked better. The photo etched parts on yours are off the charts! didn't have any of that when I was into wooden ship kits.

@muskokamike127 I've learned a lot from my first build which I can apply to the second. Probably best lesson I've learned has been the hardest ... patience 😉

@@GregWilson635 100% and the right tools. Do you have a steamer for the planks for the hell? you can make one out of pvc and a kettle if you don't. It's also a lot easier to bend if they're steamed as opposed to soaked in the bathtub lol a small razor saw and mini plane are vital. I learned that planing the top edge of the previous plank on the hull makes em fit SO much nicer. I picked up a set of PC board micro drill bits as well. Surgical forceps//hemostats are a god send too.
@GregWilson635 Жыл бұрын
@muskokamike127 I have all that except for a steamee. I haven't heard of tgat before but I will give it a go. The bow on the Santisima is almost a 90 degree bend so may need to try that. I also plane the top edge of the planks.

lol why am I not surprised Aussie customs thought it was "suspicious". Whut? a model kit with wooden and metal parts? well we'll see aboot that! What? miniature cannons and cannon balls? DANGER DANGER lol
@GregWilson635 Жыл бұрын
Haha that's exactly what I was thinking. They stopped it , cut it open. Released it then returned it to customs where they opened it again and then tried charging me import duties for a second time!

Kit looks good, plenty of work to do 😛, the ribs look very thin, is the ply used 2mm , going to make planking awkward.
@GregWilson635 Жыл бұрын
The ribs are 3mm which is the same as he Soleil. It does make it a little more difficult.

The box contains instructions to build it or not?
@GregWilson63511 ай бұрын
No instructions In the box . You have to download them from Artesanias website.

Looks great. A big kit and huge ship😅 what I didn't like it's laser cut gratings... Looks weird and a little bit cheap
@GregWilson635 Жыл бұрын
Huge it is lol , Soleil had the same thing. Once i frame it in some Sapelli , it comes out quite well. 😉

Artisana Latina is a sad thing. A company went bankrupt making kits that were amazing. Then bought by some investors and the kits gutted. Really these kits are a cash grab now. Using the reputation of old. Sad. All of the good wood walnut, etc…replaced with low quality lime. Tom’s of exposed lime and even exposed ply… Plywood reduced to 2-3mm even in planking edges. All instructions, prints, 1:1, rigging diagrams REMOVED completely. It does come with a nice note saying that all the things they did to cheap out the kits was for the environment. But it costs the same…even though the actual value of the contents was cut drastically… “for the environment”

Yes, it is very disappointing. They used to be so much more impressive.
