Had you recieved your chanter yet? How long if so? I ordered my Black Widow yesterday. After squeeking an import for several weeks now, I am hoping the change to be rather drastic. Like driving a focus then a mustang.

@@rickwebb936 I received it a couple weeks back. It has been a tremendous upgrade in sound and feel. I use an Abbott reed and it made it sound even better.

A flat note is one that is lower in pitch than it should be, and a sharp note is one that is higher in pitch than it should be.

Glad to see you are using Abbott reeds. Generally work well and can be tuned for almost any chanter. Plus they last quite a while

@@MattWillisBagpiper Do the abbott narrow p/c reeds sound the same as the regular abbott? I don't know if they are shorter to fit under the cap. It is around $27 and I'm guessing $15 to ship if (like me) someone wanted to order one later and have it not fit. Thank you for showing that btw, it is why I decided to wait on the cap.

@@Uncle-Rob You gave me my first practice chanter. You played the pipes in a prison ministry in Abbeville, GA. I was the guitar/banjo player in the band. You told me about NAAPD. I went 5 years in a row. You inspired me to try to learn the pipes. Good to see you again.

For practice chanters, I haven't found there's much you can do with them other than add an elastic band if they're too hard. Otherwise, I just go with a different reed if having issues.

Always enjoy your reviews - would you in the “future” run the PC against the Braw tuner app to sense check the note intonation… Working with a couple of new PCs sum are much better than others. Keep up the great work!

It's too narrow for that. I use a pipe cleaner for the body and mouthpiece and a medium brush for the large section of the top

Ok. Trying to give my family some gift ideas. I was originally thinking a Blackwood PC, so I would have a utility McCallum long PC, and I wanted a wood PC for band practice. Does the Maverick have the wood ‘warmth’, or would you recommend I keep looking for Blackwood?

Good Morning Matt, i have a question for you. When I’m tuning my pipe chanter. I can get everything in tune, but quite often the high is sharp. I use a braw tuner. Hardie pipes, MacCallum band chanter and a MacCallum Q2 abw , i use this one for competitions. What are your thoughts on this? Thanks Matt

I overall prefer long practice chanters to regular ones, but any of the major manufacturers long models will work well (Maverick, McCallum, Hardie, Wallace, Dunbar, etc).

@@MattWillisBagpiper How would a cane reed sound in this chanter? Adds (misspelled?) Makes a "wet playable" cane reed for the p/c. It is spendy but I would really like to hear cane played well through a maverick. It will take me some time before I can play well enough to decern the difference myself.

They do also offer a plastic mouthpiece. If this were mine, I'd likely put a mouthpiece protector on the tip to keep from hurting myself.
