Chris Higgins Honestly the Steve one felt really good. It also plays subtone incredibly easily, which I had some difficulty doing with the Godwin model. But, I only tried 2 different reeds on them so far, so there is a lot more to discover!
@chrishiggins83874 жыл бұрын
Saxologic I feel like the Steve one had a nice balance between bright & dark. Obviously got to spend some time with the mouthpiece to get to know it. I bought the Tivon Pennicott tenor mouthpiece from SYOS and it’s great. I went back to my Otto Link though because I don’t play tenor very much.
@leobird87564 жыл бұрын
I thought the Meyer won pretty decisively. Great projection, nice full well rounded tone. The SYOS pieces have this subtle but still significant lack of depth somehow. Feels like the SYOS pieces kind of.. suck the resonance out of your tone. Only slightly, but still

I’m going to music school in the fall and currently play on a metal Belmonte with a 7 tip opening, small chamber, medium baffle. I only play it because there’s so many options out there that I don’t really know what to pick and there aren’t any good music stores within driving p distance that have a good selection of mouthpieces to try. Hey man, I've always digged your sound so you definitely sound good on all those pieces! But my own personal experience with SYOS is that while they're cool little mouthpieces they lack some depth in the sound department. It seems like they take away some of you and imprint this "fake" sound if that makes any sense. But you still sound killer on all of those pieces! (The Meyers my favorite but I'm biased because I played on one for a while) if you ever get the chance try out the 10mfan mouthpieces, those mouthpieces are solid! 🔥🔥

I feel I should chime in here and say I totally agree. There’s a lot of hype around the SYOS pieces because well.. there’s a lot of hypable stuff about them; wacky colors, 3D printing, super customizable, etc. but the sound just doesn’t cut it.. like Diego says, it always feels like there’s something missing. A sort of unshakeable fake or cheap sound, that you notice more and more the more you play it. SYOS pieces are a cool novelty in the short term, but I’d be surprised if professional musicians chose to play these over any other mouthpiece, if they weren’t being paid to use and advertise it. They need to make some upgrades to be taken seriously as a contender for other $200 pieces
