That Dritz Cat Pin Magnet did not stick very well on my machine but I found a better use for it. I am using it as a template handle. Just suction cup it to a small template to help you lift and move it around.

I used to love the Sew Sampler Box but cancelled it. I was getting tired of all the repetitive notions plus, as a Canadian customer the shipping and exchange rate was making it difficult to justify the expense.

I believe the canvas holder is a great idea for picnic and outdoor ball games to have a nice carrier for your banker/ quilt to sit on or possibly an outdoor concert.

I did the same. Had this for over a year and a half and felt this was a very beginner box with many items that I will not use. I have a box of items I will pass on to other sewers. Do love their online shop and will continue to purchase in the future.

The box was amazing when I first started sewing and was so happy with it. I agree it is a great deal and helps you build a stash. I have changed to getting all fabric boxes. Like a Tilda box, Kaffe Fassett and little box of figs. So I went from 1 box, canceled it and started getting 3 different ones. Makes perfect sense. 😂

once I move I plan on doing the same thing and get fabric boxes. I have found that I love the feel of batiks and wanting to get more of that and I also love pre-cuts so I can get a little bit of each fabric out of the line.

I enjoyed your video. The strap was in a previous box and I’m pretty sure the cat magnet was too. So this box was kind of a way to get rid of stock that is not moving. I did like the rest of the box. I made a quilt for a friend to take to chemo with her. I gave her the strap to carry it back and forth.

I had some of the same issues when I cancelled a couple years ago. I ended up with three rotary cutters in a year. I don't hand sew either because of arthritis.

I canceled all of my boxes. I rarely get the project done. I use a,similar binding tool. I love it. I use it for more than binding and borders. I use it for HSTs,too.

I had made up my mind to make this the last box I was going to get. I was waiting for the finishing pattern. I agree with you. I've been quilting for over 30 years and I have all the gadgets, rulers, pins, etc. that I need. It was fun getting the box every month, but I was disappointed several times as I didn't need the things inside. Thank you for your review.

I totally agree with you about the sew sampler box. When I was a new quilter I subscribed and it was invaluable to me to get a nice collection of specialty rulers and projects that helped me learn new techniques. I kept it for a few years and like you I realized I had just outgrown it. It doesn't make it a bad box. It just makes it a perfect box for new quilters. The value is definitely there. Yes, when I first canceled I kind of missed it. I loved seeing that little blue box show up in my mailbox once a month, but I make a point to go online and see what I'm missing and realize that I'm really not missing things that I would need so it makes me feel like I made the right decision.

I totally understand what your saying about Sew Sampler. I have gotten all boxes but the first few and I still look forward to getting them. What I will say is I share them with my mother. what I don't like she does. Works out very well. I really like the simplicity of some of the patterns cause after a harder quilt with tons of points and small piecing you just want to make something fast and fun. I do agree about the size and I usually will order the extra for the larger option. At the end of the day its about what makes it all fun. I still get excited about a new ruler and I never have enough thread conditioner. lol Luv the quilt behind you. Have an amazing day.

I was really interested in getting this box because everyone raved about it, but after two years I feel like it is geared towards early beginners. I tried letting the COVID excuse go for a bit, but I’m just not impressed enough with what we get for it to be worth the price. I think this was also my last box!

I cancelled my subscription as well. I agree that pattern was too small. Unfortunately they only had full jelly rolls available in their store. I will have to consider if I want to purchase another full jellyroll or try to figure out another use for a half jelly roll.

Personally I have not seen one subscription box that I would subscribe too, but that is me. I am not a modern fabric person or quilter so the fabrics out today I would not even buy 99% of them, which is fine as people do love it. There are too many notions in the box as opposed to fabric which is the much more desired part of a subscription along with some new patterns on how to use our fabrics. Everyone has their way of doing things and new quilters will learn theirs also, we all have. Thank you for showing us this box and explaining your feelings about it.

I agree with you on duplicate type notions. They usually just sit around and I keep them for awhile and then find a home. I stopped getting them for that reason. I do love smaller patterns because I’m having a tuff time making huge projects. I wish they would allow purchase of some of those smaller patterns. Also the box has a good value but too costly for me now.

I have several friends that got the cat magnet and couldn't get it to work. It would not stick to any of the sewing machines that I have. I used to get the Sew Sampler box, but cancelled for the same reason that you did. It seemed like a good value, but I didn't keep many of the items in the box. Thanks for the video.

I agree with you about the boxes being geered toward more of a beginner quilter. I have received a few knitting and quilting boxes. Only a couple items was I able to find useful. Most fabric lines I find to be downright ugly or much of the line are not my taste. I have been sewing for many years and don't need to grow my stash, but I like to keep up with the new trends in quilting.

I also cancelled this subscription after March box. I subscribed for two full years and loved the fabric that I received in the boxes (there were a few that were a total miss IMO) but also wish there were more stuff to complete the pattern instead of having to go spend another additional $40 dollars or so. I also find that all the needles were not to my liking since I do not hand sew either. I did find the binding tool useful as this helped me to bind on the bias as this has always been a struggle for me...maybe that is because being left-handed and in a right-handed world. I still love getting the seasonal project boxes as that is tailored more to my liking. I am looking to get signed up for other subscription boxes that are more stash building so I can build my fabric collection. Thanks for sharing!

I got the pox in 2019. I seemed to only keep the fabric and patterns. To me, the add-ins were not worth the price. I only seemed to keep the pattern and jelly rolls.

I am wondering how you get the discount on the box for $37. My last box with postage was $41. Her increase with the postage increase at the same time made it too much for little quilts. The tools? Sometimes they were repetitive. I only participated about six months, and got two seam rippers…I love the one with a light.

It's not a discount...I think it depends on where you live with the shipping and the tax that makes the difference. That seam ripper is nice!

Unfortunately, there really isn't one geared towards advanced. There are ones that are more project based (instead of all the notions) like Pastry Shop Quilts (they are every 6 weeks, so more time in between to do the projects), or fabric based like Sew Yeah's Friend Box (they give you a pattern to download, but the box has a lot of fabric so you could do something other than their patterns).

Thank you Stephanie for FQS box critique. The box is nice and I have picked a seasonal box for them and they do put a lot of items many of us already have acquired over the years. I agree with you that they have lovely patterns and fabric included. As others have mentioned it would be a great idea for FQS to start up a box for the different level of quilters. I believe they’d really do well with something of that nature as more and more quilters mature in their sewing abilities.🥰

Stephanie, I think the quilter's strap is good for going on a picnic. You roll up your quilt and put the strap on each end. Then you can put the strap on your shoulder and carry it to the park.

I’ve only had sew sampler for 6 months, but I think I might cancel…some of the “things” are cheaply made and I think to myself, “I bet Kimberly would never use this…”. Like the FQS seam ripper-she raves about the white clover one (and I love the clover one too), but we got a cheaply made china-made seam ripper in Kimberly’s aqua color. Same with the dog ear clipper-I tried once but such a hassle to use and scissors do just fine-not to mention Kimberly only used once in video right before we got the box. Sorry for the rant, but I agree!

I'm just not pleased with the options lately (like yet another binding dohickey and the useless to me quilt carrier strap), and I've seldom been a fan of the pattern styles anyway. Aditionally, I want to be able to spend my $38 on the notions or fabric of my own choosing.

I think you'll like the QS marking pen. I too use frizion pens but only on back. The purple can be used on the front and removed with eraser. It also doesn't set even if you iron. The eraser takes it out and dries quickly. I don't do subscription boxes cause like you I have my ways and tools I like.

To be honest, I'm with you when it comes to most of the notions from the boxes. Some are great, a lot make me scratch my head but I love getting the boxes all the same and so far only once I have hated the fabric they sent. I'd definitely buy an 'advanced' box if they ever did one that was geared more towards a larger quilt without most of these cutesy notions.

Live in the Uk so no subscription boxes here. Watch a lot of box openings on you tube from America. Love them. Also watch Kimberly a lot. Love her too but when she says she would never make ‘that quilt because it’s too hard’ I find myself shouting at the screen. I’m a complete novice and dabbler at quilting and have made some amazing quilts, even though I say so myself, and many are difficult. Not perfect but each quilt is an improvement on the last. Now, if I can have a go, Kimberly, with years of experience, could surely have a go. She is more than capable. I find all her patterns are easy so maybe that reflects in the boxes. Look at what The Quilting Marine has achieved in his short time. Challenged himself and producing great work. Kimberly has done so much for the art that is quilting already and love her to bits. Will always watch her.

OMGosh I'm having a little fomo too, but I've decided to stop my subscription after this box. I agree there is great value there, but after years of receiving it, my drawers are full with notions and fabric that I haven't chosen or used. This year, I'm trying to spend my quilty money only on fabrics and tools that I need and love and will use for a project that I will actually complete instead of just storing. I love FQS and am grateful for the boxes I have received in the past, but it's time to let it go.

I am a brand new quilter (I'm currently working on quilt #2). This is my take on the box, I bought the January box just to see what it was all about and even as a new quilter I decided not to subscribe for the same reasons you mentioned. The only thing I really liked was the fabric even though I don't even know what to do with it. The pattern was for a table runner and that is just not something I'm interested in at this time. I decided my budgeted quilt money would be better spent on buying patterns I like, fabrics I like, and building up an assortment of rulers. Fabrics, notions, and patterns are just too expensive to take a chance on what might come in a box. I can see that some people would like the element of a "surprise" but that just doesn't work for me right now.

I had their seasonal fat quarter box for 4 months. I cancelled because in 4 months I recieved 2 sets of 12 FQ of valenine's and 2 sets of Easter FQ's... so, i was afraid February was going to bring another Easter set... so I stopped in January.😢

The problem with these kinds of boxes is that they try to be very general to appeal to as many people as possible. Unfortunately, I’m a really established quilter. I rarely add tools, gadgets and gizmos to my quilting space. Most of the time, the stuff that isn’t a fabric or a pattern just gets donated or given away. It’s a total waste of money to not keep and use the tools yourself. So, I stopped my sew sampler subscription, and I focus on the fabric based ones. They’re more useful for the type of quilter I am.

Cancelled a number of years ago. Always felt the box was good for new quilters and the notions in the box have become a joke. Not to mention the cost for what is in the box.

While all these things are nice in a subscription box, I just think my sewing 'area' would get too 'junky' with accessories that I don't use every day. I like to buy what I need at the time. It gets overwhelming. Now a box of just fabrics would be my interest!!

I also cancelled my box . rather spend money on fabric instead of a bunch of notions that I'm not going to use. I love the fat quarter shop just not box thanks steph!!!
