Oh man…. Don’t even know what to say. I know this book means so much to you and I’m extremely thrilled and pumped for you to have acquired the right copy for your collection. Appreciate the shout out as well as I’m super happy to give ASM 122 a good home. As far as grading the book without the detached cover, I wouldn’t be surprised if it landed in the 2.0 realm. I was going to guess DD1 when you mentioned silver age grail yesterday. Funny enough I also traded for this book at a local convention last week. Gave up 4 really good slabs one of which was also ASM 50. ( which I will also get back into my pc). My method is I will only trade books off my pc wall if I can get a bigger key out of it. Congrats on the big key! My collection has changed a lot in recent years. Sold off a lot of series runs to focus in on specific books. Many aren't even keys but books I had in the 70s when I 1st started collecting.

Sweet. I'm jealous. I just got back into collecting about 2 years ago after 29 years away, so I've had a lot of catching up to do. I'm concentrating mostly on X-Men and related titles, but I will pick up Daredevil issues if they are available for a reasonable price. Most of my Daredevil issues are in the 200s. My oldest Daredevil is #15, first appearance of the second Ox! lol I haven't purchased any slabs yet, or sent anything off to get graded. And I'm still sticking to relatively inexpensive books. The most I have paid for one so far is $145 for a raw copy of Luke Cage, Hero for Hire #1 that is probably in the 3.5 to 4.0 range, which completed that run. I'm with you on not needing 9.8s for everything. Low grade is better than no grade. Next up for me... tracking down Uncanny X-Men issues 120-122, 129-130, and 132-134. That would leave me with every issue of Uncanny X-Men from v.1 #110 through v.5 #22 (plus all of the annuals and specials). I'm saving up for a local convention in about 3 weeks in hopes of being able to find and afford the big money issues (129 and 130). Also on the lookout for Alias #1 and Ghost Rider #1 and 2 to complete both of those series. The Ghost Rider issues are more of a long-term goal, with eventual designs on Marvel Spotlight #5-11. Though I suppose I should try to get all of those before Marvel makes a casting announcement for the character and everyone else rushes to buy them.

I love hearing stories about folks coming back into collecting! I too was on a hiatus but just couldn't stay away. I think your plan to stick to relatively inexpensive books is a good one, and it sounds like you got a fair price on that Luke Cage issue one which is a book I hope to acquire eventually because I love the street-level heroes. I'm don't know if you're on Instagram but if you are, I can direct you to some excellent purveyors of the finest X-Men comics you are looking for. I too constantly find myself trying to acquire books in which an upcoming movie might cause them to spike. I wish I collected when this wasn't a problem lol.
