The biggest problem with these is that there's little difference between Enlisted and Officer uniforms. They should have stuck with the same differences as the originals. EM's get just greens, Officers get the "pink" trousers. Only officers get the waist belt, etc.. Also, I hate how they did crusher caps for everyone. It's iconic, but the way they shaped it looks off. It should have been made with a traditional stiffener, but in regulation for air units to remove the stiffener and reserved exclusively for them to do that, i.e. the only people who earned the right and/or have a reason to crush their caps. The overseas/garrison cap is so much more appropriate for EM's.

Also, you should’ve put both green jackets, Army and Marines, on a coat hanger or on a half torso mannequin to display the similarities and differences between the two. A couple corrections. We DO have a fancier dress blue "mess" uniform, but you aren't expected to have that until the higher ranks. The ASU is going to transition to be our dress uniform. So, that blue uniform you have in the comparison at the end there is going to be for formal wear. The AGSU is intended for daily "office" wear. No more combat uniforms in the office while hammering out emails. You wear the combat uniform for motorpool, field, or hands on training... AGSU for everything else. I wish you got a pair of the shoes with it! Would've liked to get a good look at those.
@neatpicker6443 жыл бұрын
@Nonoffensive Username Sure. Or... hear me out... it's a move towards a more professional Army. Uniform maintenance is something we've moved away from, not entirely to the betterment of the organization. In addition, it does not take me an hour to change uniforms. Your mileage may vary... But if you find that you're losing time due to excessive and pointless uniform changes, I'd look to your chain of command. I have motorpool activities slotted directly after PT, so my Soldiers can change directly into a utility uniform. I furthermore ensure that I maximize and take advantage of the time spent in that uniform or that type of work environment. So a day with motorpool activities also turns into a day where Soldiers are in the cages moving and inventorying equipment. Good management of your training schedule will alleviate the concerns you've listed. On a day where there are no hands-on or field activities? Why can't Soldiers wear a more professional service type uniform? Cutting corners and wearing your combat uniform for everything isn't the answer for the type of professional environment big Army wishes to cultivate.

I was a Sergeant of Marines myself. What alot people don't know, is prior to1990, the Marine Corps had two Service Alpha uniforms for winter and summer. One was wool and the other was what they referred to as 'polys'. it was announced later they were coming out with a single year-round service uniform which is currently be used. When the Army announced they were releasing a new uniform reminscent of WWII, I was kind of curious. "Pinks and greens'" were restricted to officers only if recall. Enlisted wore trousers that matched the uniform jacket. I was surprised this will now be a uniform both officer and enlisted. I don't envy those individuals who have to pay out of pocket to get this. At $850.00 a set, noooope. My complete seabag price when I was in was less than $600.

Thank you for this video . I like this return to the iconic US Army WWII uniform . I think the pink refers to pressing the pants with starch created a pinkish tinge to the pants as was the case with the Canadian 50's summer tan uniform . I do not know US Army terminology for the dress hat described in this video as a buss drivers hat but we referred to it as a forge hat we had 2 types regular forge general service dress and guards forge hat with a shorter brim on the front tilted down . The garrison hat we refered to as wedge hat . Hats with a front facing brim where mainly used in the field where known as peak caps or hats or one was known as a bush hat . All arround brimed field hats where known to us as combat hats tilly hats or bush hats similarly as was the case with the od green peak cap . That all being said when the comined forces uniform was issued we called the forge hat a bus driver hat be ause it just didn't look that military . Thank you again for this informative video .

So it looks like Marine service greens, including the cover. So, what are going to be the Army standards? 1- will you be required to shine the belt buckles or are they supposed to be a matt color? 2- Is there a tie clasp like we use in the Marine Corps? 3- Do you use shirt stays? 4- Do you press creases in the shirts like the Marine Corps? 5- Service stripes? 6- Marines get a blood stripe on their trousers when they get promoted to NCO- does the Army do something similar? 7- is there a cover device? 8- Do they also issue a Barracks cover (Cover with a frame)? 9- Ribbons and badges over the left pocket? 10- Would DIs wear the uniform with the campaign cover? (That's Drill Sergeants for the Army). 11- So the dress shoes will be brown instead of black? 12- Are we going to see Paratroopers wearing them with jump boots like they did in the past, and with a beret with patch as a cover? This also applies to unit dress cordage, I suppose... So many questions, I know, I'm just curious. I'm used to how we wear our Dress Blues and Service Greens. I commend the Army for going back to a more military looking uniform. Just please tell those overstuffed fat bodies that we see out in town at the 7-Eleven to get some PT and maintain their fitness standards and keep their hands out of their pockets, I want to see the Army regain some of the respect that comes with presenting a squared-away look. If you know what I mean. I'm not saying they all look nasty, but there are A LOT that do. Image is important. Anyway, Semper Fi! SSgt Cruz, David C. USMC (Ret) 0311/1986-2010

You know, if you are going to comment on the uniforms, at least do your research. The Army Green Service Uniform is a return to the service uniform for officers in WW2. That uniform was first used after WW1 in the early 1920. The officers wore the "pink" pants (Drab #54) and the "green" jackets (OD #51). Enlisted wore green pants (OD #32) and jacket (OD #33). A few years after the Army adopted this uniform, the Marines followed suit, with the distinctive USMC differences. The Marines kept this ever since, while the Army went to the Army Greens, then to the Army Service Uniform (blues). The Blues are being kept as a dress uniform, between the AGSU and the various mess uniforms.

I still like the Dress Blues myself and the Blues go back to the Calvary days and the reason why the pants are lighter than the jacket is because back when they rode horses the troops used to take the blouses off-road them up and attach them to the saddle so the pants would get lighter color from the Sun then the jackets
@armynurseboy3 жыл бұрын
The Dress Blue/ASUs were great for formal occasions when you needed to be dressed to the nines. But they sucked for daily duty dress. Also, the idea that the pants were lighter because they faded to that is a myth. The trousers and jacket of Army uniforms back in the day were always of a different color. This was done purposefully so that if the jacket or trousers faded at different rates, they wouldn't be mismatched.

Before the dress blues uniform there was the dark green uniform. This was the uniform after the WW-2 uniform. This the one I have. My soldier time was from 1977 to 1981, and re-enlisted 1984 to 1987. The garrison hat back then had straight corners on the front and rear of the hat. This current garrison cap has rounded. A Regimental crest pin was on the left front. If you were parachute or Air Assault trooper there was a patch sewn on the right side of the garrison cap. A glider is shown with an image of a parachute was shown on the patch. If you are Infantry during WW-2 you had a braided blue rope on the right side if the cost sleeve. Attached to the right side eppalette the small loop goes around the eppalette button. Going under the right arm. This blue braided rope is used today. You will need to put your USMC 2nd Division patch on the right shoulder. Put all unit patches that you are currently serving in on the left side. For display purposes get a US Army 2nd Infantry Division patch. Here's a description. Starting with black shield with a three pointed top with a single point on the bottom. There is a white five pointed star in the middle of the shield. An image of Chief Crazy Horse of the Lakota Sioux in the middle of the star. Or choose the 2nd Cavalry Division. A large triangular patch with a rounded top and a singular rounded point on the bottom. Yellow background having two 8-pointed stars on top of a single blue chevron. Next option is the 2nd Armored Division. A typical triangle patch with the standard armored division patch with a front view of a tank. There is the words underneath the triangle "Hell On Wheels." I recommend the 2nd Infantry Division patch. This is the US Army unit that US Marines participated in during WW-1. The US Army 2nd Division was composed of two Brigades. One Brigade was US Army Infantry soldiers. The other Brigade was US Marine Infantry. The 2-ID was positioned at the foot of a ridge line at a place called Belleau Wood near the Marne River in France. The US 2nd-ID is the only US Army unit that was ever commanded by Marine commissioned Officers. The 2-ID during WW-1 was commanded by General John Archer Lejeune, USMC. There was a staunch defence from the 2-ID. The opposing German forces called these Americans in Belleau Wood "Teufel Hunden." General Pershing ordered the men of the 2-ID not to make a mockery of the macabre nature of war by forbidding the use of Teufel Hunden. After WW-1 the Marines Returned to the Department of the Navy. Since the orders issued by General Pershing became moot. Teufel Hunden was used by US Marines to this day. The US Army soldiers were never released from commands of General Pershing. Doubt this information? One of the Marine Division insignia has the US Army's 2-ID's patch on a entrance sign at a Marine Camp. Search the history of John Archer Lejeune, USMC for more. This would make the imagery of your completed Pink's & Greens show the rest of the story. Why so many Division types? Why are there Cavalry units in the US Army if they don't ride horses? Infantry Divisions are mostly composed of Infantry, including tanks and artillery. Two types of Infantry Divisions, bring heavy and light. Heavy is all armored. Light is unamored Infantry, Airborne, Air Assault, and, Glider Infantry. Cavalry is always with tanks and armored Infantry. Each Cavalry squadron containes +/- 15, possibly 20 tanks, and armored recon. All Cavalry groups are generally the smallest of these combat groups allowing for faster movement. The Armored Divisions are tank heavy. Up to 80+ tanks in a company. Cavalry is not Cavalry because of horses. Cavalry just moved faster the Infantry walking on foot. Since horses move faster than humans. Now tanks and helicopters are faster than horses so no more horses. This is an American definition of Cavalry. European and Asian definitions may not be the same. One of the best medals is the Combat Infantry Badge. The Expert Infantry Badge is a rifle in a field of blue inside a rectangular background. Add a wreath around the triangle with a rifle. And you have the first CIB. If you have two combat tours, such as WW-2 and Korea you add one star. WW-2, Korea and Vietnam you have two stars, a wreath and a rifle in a blue background. This is the only way someone could have three combat tours. Time in Iraq and Afghanistan is one combat tour not two. Another impressive badge is the Combat jump parachute badge. There is a small gold star in the middle of the parachute lines. A star on top of the canopy is the senior parachutist badge. A wreath around the star is Jump Master parachutist wings. HALO & HAHO wings have wings in a downward fashion. A dagger in the middle. Let me help you on completing the awards and decorations of US Army uniforms. Including the US pin and the Army field branches of the US Army. My insignia was crossed rifles of the Infantry. Was an 11C mortar crewman. Special forces now use crossed arrows. These are the only jobs types that are authorized to wear the blue rope and blue discs.

Its very similar to the USMC Alphas. The biggest differences that I see is the tie is brown to match the jacket, where the USMC has tan to match the shirt. The lower pockets of the jacket are different in that on the Alphas the pocket is sewn on the outside of the jacket and the Army uniform hides the body of the pocket. The pocket flaps are also different shapes. The trousers of the USMC match the jacket where as the army trousers look like they are a different shade of Khaki from the shirt, makes them look like a pair of Chinos honestly. All in all I like the look of the uniform and curious if they will allow jump boots worn for those who are allowed like with the old dress greens.

A well-done video comparing US Army and Marine Corp's uniforms! Smart move by the US Army, they are catching up to the US Marine Corp's outstanding looking uniforms. While I personally like the look of the old WW2 Pink and Greens, I also understand that such is an expensive costly item. Personally, I'd also like to see the US Army also bring back a World War 1 type of Chocker collar type of green dress uniforms they look sharp and as such would be a positive force multiplier for the image of the US Army! I am a veteran of both the US Army and the Estonian Defense Forces Army. I was involved in Reasearch& Development of Uniforms, Footwear, Equipment, and Weapons while in the Estonian Defense Forces. My experiences and knowledge tell me that the US Army ACU needs to be redesigned with having large vertical Zipper pockets on them which would enhance the soldiers' abilities to quickly retain, secure and stuff critical equipment items in when faced being in a dangerous quick fast-paced hastily bugging out critical situations. Also, the low sided US Army combat boots offer poor overall protection to the soldier. A taller, 16/17/ inch tall temperate weather combat boot or tall ( 16/17/18 inch protective Leggings to go over the low combat boots is needed. Snake boots, Linesman Boots, Miners boots all come to mind as to the right type of boots to make into an effective combat boot design. During the emergency situation with responding to the attacks on America on Sept 11 2001, at Ground Zero WTC NYC, soldiers and other responders were susceptible to leg injuries from metal, glass, plastic protruding debris where one's foot and leg would get stuck. Some responders had 18 inch tall lace-up rescue boots that were puncture resistant, which offered necessary leg protection to the wearer, keeping them safe to continue to perform their critical missions. Such tall puncture resistant boots have proven their extreme value and would make for an outstanding combat boot for soldiers. There is still room for a lot of necessary improvements to US Military uniforms, boots and personal equipment that is needed!

I like the new Army dress uniform....I was in when I wore the dress greens...

I don’t like the OV cover with the 20 mission crush just because that’s bomber pilots all day and that’s their cover. Like the slouch cover for Cav guys. Other than that, I really wish we had those when I was in. That uniform will look badass with Corkys. I wonder if they’ll go back to brown for this uniform. I hope so.

Am I right in thinking that the old army service blue jacket is a call back to the civil war?
@daniel_sc10243 жыл бұрын
The U.S. Army's use of blue uniforms dates back to the Revolutionary War. You are correct in that the blue uniform is still used for ceremonial occasions. And, it is used by members of the 3rd Infantry Regiment (the "Old Guard") as the daily uniform while on duty in Washington D.C. and surrounding area (such as Sentinels of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier; caisson platoon at Arlington National Cemetery; the Old Guard's Twilight Tattoo).

SSIFWS = now SSI-MOHC is only for army soldier that served in combat. Sister service and civilian served in combat operations are not authorized. But can and only wear overseas service strip. Unfortunately AR-670-1 page 42-43 states that. It’s pretty unfair for former sister service members that served in combat.....

And Navy Marine Corps unit citation and marine corps Meritorious Unit Commendation goes to right side on army uniform unlike Navy or Marine corps one

My brother Dave, a born troublemaker, would walk around town dressed in various uniforms hoping somebody would start stolen valor crap with him. Only one time, he was drinking coffe wearing a field jacket and someone came up and said he didn’t earn it. Dave gave him a few choice words but they guy kept it up until the manager called the police and they arrested the guy for disturbing the peace

2nd Mar Div Combat Patch - Ramadi OIF3? My first (and greatest mentor) team leader wore one - best NCO I ever had - he ended up pinning stripes on me later when he took the squad, and I was one of his team leaders - either way, whenever/wherever you earned it, appreciate what you do -

I don’t know if it was a good idea to go back to WW2 I personally think the only Uniforms that looked good back then where the Germans especially SS. In my opinion they should have made something simpler and modern.
