USS Arizona's silver service is on display at the Arizona State Capitol. It was originally believed to have been lost with the ship, but was later found in a warehouse. It had been removed and crated during her last refit.

The Silver Service of USS Indiana (BB-1) was used by USS Indianapolis (in storage during the Tinian Mission) and then by USS Nimitiz (CVN-68) till 2008. In 2008 the service was all returned to Indianapolis where it is currently displayed .Estimated worth of Silver is over $1.5 Million USD (cost$8000.00USD in 1890's). The punch bowl weighs twenty (20) pounds and has a dent from an enemy shell during battle in Cuba. Beautiful Silver, 39 pieces, made by Tiffany & Company.

I’ve seen the USS Arizona’s service at the Arizona State Capitol Museum & Archives. Our state contributed a full set of copper service (not silver) handmade by copper craftsmen in keeping with the 5 C’s of the Arizona economy. The entire copper set survived because shortly before December 7th, it was crated and placed on shore. When the USS Arizona was decommissioned, the copper set was returned to the State of Arizona, and it has been rotated on and off display at the Capitol ever since.

The silver service of the USS Wyoming (BB32)(1912-1947) is in the Wyoming State Museum in Cheyenne and is occasionally used for official state and military occasions. IIRC it was also made by Tiffany and has lots of Wyoming symbolism such as buffalo, Indian paintbrush flowers, etc.. The punch bowl is 3-4 times the size of the one Ryan unboxed. I don't believe that any of the service was sent to the current USS Wyoming (SSBN742) when it was commissioned in 1996. Probably because there is much less occasion and space for formal entertaining on a ballistic missile submarine than on a battleship.

Everyone who has watched "Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World" will remember Capt. Jack's stewards gathering the silver. This is factually accurate. In the days of sail the Captain's silver would be placed in a small boat that was towed behind the ship as it went into combat. It was a gentlemanly agreement, at the time, that no one would fire at the boat with the silver in it. Anyone who has studied history may remember how a person's wealth was called "plate." They didn't have banks and they didn't keep all that much in coin. Their wealth would be made into silver and gold service and kept on display. BTW, on the mess decks we all had silver service. It was stainless steel trays and cutlery.

I believe in an earlier video Ryan explained as part of the museum ship contract with the Navy they cannot use the galley equipment
@XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX9813 жыл бұрын
@@fko1 Yes, I saw that video too. It's the Navy Contract video that the museum has to adhere to. As I hinted, it won't happen for those reasons. Still a pity. Be a great backdrop.
@tyree90553 жыл бұрын
@@fko1 If that's true, that's complete bullsh*t. Those kitchens are bigger than most restaurant chains! ☝😅 It'd be an ideal way to bring money in for the ship's restoration. The only problem is that the restaurant industry's very harsh / difficult to successfully compete in. Ryan definitely wouldn't be able to manage a restaurant and the museum simultaneously, but a scenario where guest Chefs show up to run the kitchens for a weekend or two could work out. A properly run gourmet restaurant (with berthings for rent) could fix that ship up in a decade or two and have funds to spare. Air BnB meets Battleship! 😄👍

Looked it up: The name of the foundation is spelled: "Drumthwacket". An..interestingly quirky name to hear. A new camera with an omnidirectional mic, and two moving blankets, spread out just out of sight would make the sound much better. Is there a budget for a new camera and FM wireless microphone, like the one the weatherman uses on TV? That and a couple of moving blankets, to soak up the reverb in the steel compartments would make a big difference. There have been mysterious, mic wire or, edit room, intermittent, or out of phase type, unusual sound anomalies. Get some help from someone who works with the same software you use.
